Now this is a classic. It's claustrophobic, creepy, mind-expanding, and it tells a good story, plus, guys, you can see through the woman's shirt on there.

2nd attempt to watch.  I gave it 35 minutes.  On late and I kept thinking wish it were on in the afternoon.  It is interesting how some shots were composed.  I had the same problem.  Russian.  I understand "nyet" and that's about it.  Subtitles were hard to read and fast.  Lots of time to observe long composed shots (I like boring) and then dialogue, almost amateur camera suddenly, fast inter titles, can't keep up.  For once, I need to see a dubbed edition of a foreign film!  Reading for 3 hours and constantly missing the tail end... Nyet.

The first time I saw it, I was saying "This is beautiful but please get a move on!"

I actually like both versions of this film, but I do think the Soviet one doesn't move at a pace westerners, especially contemporary westerners, are used to dealing with. Think of how slow and deep much of classic Russian storytelling is, and then consider how in that tradition Solaris was.

I think the ending of the Soviet film holds real terror. Almost like a sucker punch after trust has been gained.
