Title: The Happy Thoughts Thread
Post by: ER on June 24, 2023, 10:15:26 AM
Rainbows belong to everyone!

TV has never been this good!

Sunsets and sunrises are often glorious!

Books are within almost everyone's reach!

Orgasms exist!

Rivers in America have never been cleaner since before industrialization!

Someone discovered peanut butter and jelly go well together!

Our dogs love us no matter what!

Every baby born is a hope for the future!

I've got no commitments scheduled today, I'm drinking a bourbon in my robe before noon and listening to music. Life is good at the moment.

Sitting here typing, my pics for my book are ready and I am doing a final polish on my book. There aren't any Polish people to help here in Pretoria so I guess I have to do the polish myself.

Listening to The War of The Worlds (1977) on my headphones.

That apart, I am a bit cold sitting here (8:16 pm) and I am going to bed soon with a few turtles and a cup of coffee.

Love you all.

Even though I don't shell out my hard-earned money for overpriced ice cream treats, it's still a happy occurrence when the ice cream truck comes down the street playing a happy tune, bringing yummy treats to happy kids.  I still love the Choco Tacos and Drumsticks (Cornettos in UK).

Did you ever manage to get a date with the women who kept cancelling and rescheduling?

Yes! 2 dates, in fact, and the second was much less of a hassle than the first.

Even if I never do make the New York Times bestseller list, there are thousands of copies of my books in print now and people will still be able to read them long after I'm gone - which is a kind of earthly immortality!

For a silver lining happy thought, I think the pandemic may have prevented World War Three. I truly do. Things were more volatile than I have come to see people at home apparently knew, and then the pandemic began and everything changed. It was terrifying for a couple weeks at the beginning of 2020, and even veteran military were saying, "This is the real deal." Suddenly priorities shifted and everyone got pulled back. It was so dramatic that one former co-worker of mine, intelligent, not normally into conspiracies, believes it's possible Covid was all about defusing what was going on. I won't say he is right but it says something about the timing and the effects that someone like him would entertain the idea. But whatever is true, I do think Covid may have prevented a major war.

Off to drive my youngest far into the verdant countryside for her long-faced assassin horseback riding, and it's just possible we might stop off at a farmers' market on the way back and surprise ourselves with some random nice item or two like honey with the comb inside, or an Appalachian shrunken apple doll. Never know!

Life is good.

You should get over your fear by organising a ride along the Appalachian trail next summer.

With who?
Iran, with other nations likely to be pulled in. The US funneled troops into Turkey, IAFB was on highest alert, one morning everyone's phones, laptops, tablets were all confiscated, people were told they could have a brief call to their families and then communications were shut down. The feeling was Iranian retaliatory missiles were going to hit IAFB as they already had lesser targets in Turkey, including US installations, which according to treaties and NATO's charter would have been an act of war and officially treated like an attack on the US, requiring a military response. Things were a mess, soldiers were being deployed into the desert and forward outposts were being built and people whose jobs had nothing to do with military operations were sent in with them. Turkey was angry about being pulled in and did not seem willing to support the US, maybe even opposed it. Turkish soldiers surrounded one US outpost, I know that. ,During all this the Trump administration was proving itself woefully inadequate to the situation, chaos everywhere, mismanagement that coukd only be called amateurish, and apparently in the US this was little reported. COVID forced nations to respond to it and defused what was looking dire.

I don't think covid or war is a "happy thought".

Don't worry! We still got war!

I find I can get a lot done if I break each day down into forty-eight half hours, and consistently use even half-hour blocks to accomplish something. The key, I think, is in keeping up with the commitments I made for those half-hour blocks.

Food-related happiness:
The thought of a glass of ice cold Coke being poured makes me happy.

Catching/eating the stringy cheese that dangles from a cheesy slice of pizza is a delightful struggle.

My grandkids Aiden and Theo went to a Monster Truck Show in Hartford Michigan (about 15 mile from here) at the dirt track with me son Jed and his sweetie Tanya. They invited me but it was 87 degrees on a racetrack. Hotter than a whore on dollar night. And muggy. They came home early.

So happy to be home after almost 2 weeks of being displaced from a fuse box fire.  So happy it wasn’t worse and no one was hurt.  So happy my sister had a vacant apartment for us to stay in while the city dragged their feet and took 8 days to inspect to allow us back in our house after the fuse box was replaced.  So happy I don’t have gestational diabetes.  And so happy the weather is going to be low 80s or below for at least the next week while our AC gets checked.  The last 2 weeks have been tough, but grateful there’s still so much to be happy about.

Yes, but this time I have the added twist of identical twins.  Doctors are bombarding me with all the things that could go wrong with twins so every test I pass feels like a major victory.  I’ve got 7 weeks to go and I’m hoping all three of us make it.  One of the girls is under the 10th percentile in size and needs to be checked weekly, but so far no issues with development.

I remember telling Indy once that identical twins are weird and I stand by that.  I don’t think this will ever not be weird to me, but I like weird .

^ That's weird. I live just some north of you, and it's just been raining. Right before it rains its awful muggy. Michigan. Lakes and all. But we aint got what out west and down south are getting. It's been mellow here.
You folks are baking like bacon!
Indiana (I used to live), Kentucky, Ohio, Illinois- we catch the same weather systyms- depending which way the wind blows.
EDIT- wow. I was just sitting here and hearing nothing from outside. This is really a quit town tonight. Birds. It just got done raining. The sun is shining threw this big floor to ceiling window in my computer room. It's beautiful.
