Title: Kate Beckinsale In Tight-Fitting Pleather
Post by: odinn7 on January 28, 2006, 06:10:57 PM
Most all of you are aware that I am somewhat infatuated with Kate, so it should have been obvious that this was inevitable...

I just got back from seeing Kate Beckinsale In Tight-Fitting Pleather II...I mean, Underworld: Evolution. I enjoyed the movie even with the way more than obvious plot holes, overlooked details, extremely poor CG effects, and very dark and blue/gray color tones. Why did I enjoy the movie? If you have to ask, then you haven't paid attention to anything I've posted before. Despite all these things that I listed that detract from the overall quality of the film, it was all worthwhile to me because Kate looked just as hot as ever...beautiful and sexy. But I realize, most of you don't really care about that so I will mention some other parts of the movie.
If you saw the first film, there are things in this that don't exactly match to that one although it appears you are supposed to kind of forget about it all if it doesn't fit. It also gets confusing how vampires and werewolves can be killed so easily in some scenes but in others, they will not die. It seems that the normal Hollywood lore and old superstitions as they relate to vampires and werewolves have just been passed by when it suits the script to do so. You need silver to kill werewolves but not in every instance in this film. Stakes through the heart and the other things that we have gotten used to for dispatching vampires aren't really needed in this film most of the time either.
The CG in this film was cartoonish at best. In the opening sequence, there were people changing into werewolves and it not only looked like it was drawn on the film but it was jerky and not very fluid. Very, very poorly done. Looks like about $13.50 was spent on that end of the film. I found this whole thing very distracting whenever someone had to change from human form.
As in the first movie, there was a definite lack of color other than blues and grays and I just found it to be overdone as if it was being used just to be artistic. I realize they were supposed to be in the dark for most of it but I still found this to be too much. Another thing that was overused was flashbacks. Everytime someone needed to remember something, we had to resort to washed-out, blurry, jerky flashbacks to show us what they were remembering. It was used way too much and in places that it had absolutely no need to be used. I understand that not everyone seeing this movie will have seen the first one and in this case it would make sense to use flashbacks but there were flashbacks to things that really made no difference or could have been explained in 5 seconds of dialogue that would have also given them an opportunity to show Kate while explaining it.
I will say that most of the action scenes were well done and there were more of them here than in the first film. The final fight scene involved werewolves and vampires as well as a helicopter that was put to good use but I don't want to ruin that for anyone who may go see the movie. There was plenty going on in this scene and it was quite entertaining.
All in all, despite the bad things I mentioned, I had a good time. If you're not a Kate fan and you didn't like the first movie, you probably will not like this one either. Myself, when I got home I had to change my shirt because it was soaked with drool. Who looks hot in tight-fitting, shiny pleather? Oh yeah, the little vixen named Kate.

Despite my equal attraction to Kate Beckinsale, I'll be avoiding this one like the plague.  Not even Kate's ass in the original could save me from falling asleep during the original.  I couldn't stand the story and it got old real quick.

I might check it out on video due to my wife's persisting (maybe she has a thing for Kate too?) but I'll still try to avoid it at all costs.

I want to see this, but other plans have consistantly kept me out of the theaters. I'll probably just end up buying it on DVD the day it's released.

I sort of liked the original, but I don't know if I'll like the sequel. Sequels per se tend to suck, and since the first instalment cute babes fighting monsters in tight leather have become a cliche.

A friend who actually thought the original was 'really good' thought it was crap.  So either he has grown a brain since then, or it really is that bad.

I have yet to see it, but am interested, despite my not-too-glowing hatred of how crap the first one ended up being [expectations shot to hell]

This was probably due to the crappy effects, and the fact that the movie was delayed here by at least a year [it seemed like there was ads for it for at least a year before it finally came out] which by that time my enthusiasm was somewhat waned.

But let's all be perfectly honest here: we don't go to see a movie like this for the engaging plot or in-depth character analysis [unless you chuckled because you had a dirty mind when I said 'in depth'].  We see it, for exactly the reason odinn7 saw it: Kate Beckinsale In Tight-Fitting Pleather and the fact that on the ads [here at least] we are told via the rating system that it has 'medium level sex scenes.'  mmmmm...

And with that in mind, I still would like to go see it, if not to see Kate strutting about on the big screen with a big goofy grin on my face.

[as a side note, the fact that it has heaps of flashbacks is really terrible storytelling...so frustrating...]

l liked the original because it had cool elements I like, so I'll probably pick up this one as well.

I like vampires, I like cool leather dark clothes and dark scenery.  I mean. whenit comes to movies, I'm pretty easily entertained and that's all I epect a movie to do, that it not bore me for 90 minutes or so.

Couldn't be too good, it got beat out at the box office by Martin Lawrence in a fat suit.

Maybe there's a lot of sickos in this world that would rather see Martin Lawrence in a fat suit than Kate Beckinsale in a tight, shiny pleather suit. I'd rather look at Kate any day. I would've paid to see the movie if she had just walked around in that suit for an hour and forty minutes with nothing else going on. What can I say? I think it's a disease I have...

Well if you notice the top contenders for the Oscars (Brokeback Mountain, Capote, Transamerica) it shows that nowadays people want gay men or men that want to be women in there films while films with hot chicks such as Kate Beckinsale are left in their pink dust.

It is truly sad, maybe Kate will just actually have to do a reall nude scene in the next one!!!

Here's to wishful thinking

People, if you just wann see Kate Beckinsale naked go rent "Uncovered". You'll discober that the film sucks big time, but that she was even more gorgeous ten years ago.

My statement about Kate Beckinsale getting naked has more to do with what would fill the chairs in the theatres than actually needing to see it (and yes I agree Uncovered sucked)
