Title: OT: Netflix users

Anyone ever run into this issue?

I find it interesting that they take these protections.

I've not ran into that.  The reason why is that it usually takes anywhere from 2-7 days for me to receive my dvds.  If it were quicker, then I would without a doubt be throttled.

But, the article did mention something that I've started to exploit.  Any of us Netflix users know that it's almost impossible to get a dvd that is on "Long Wait" or "Very Long Wait".  One could wait months to get one of those dvds, especially if one is a heavy renter.

I recently tried something.

I setup a queue for my wife, and just had one DVD in her list.  The DVD was on "Very Long Wait" which means that I could have waited for months for that dvd in my queue.  Since it was the only dvd in my wife's list, they shipped it to her the same day!

Sooooo, if you really want to see a film that is on a wait, all you have to do is either clear out your list and only have that one dvd in the list.  They will send it to you, since they are obligated to send you something.  The other alternative is to do as I did and setup another queue under someone else's name, with that dvd in it without anything else.  It's been working fantastically for me. ;)

I was wondering about that, in the sense of how many people really push the system hard.  I just figured they factored that into their business plan, that x% would push hard, but most would get a small number.

Any moron can figure out that 'unlimited' cannot really mean unlimited.  If you rented three at a time, watched them and returned them THAT DAY, so you had say three per day for the whole month, that's a LIMIT of about 90 per month.  So anyone thinking unlimited meant infinite needs to get their head out of the clouds.

The Terms of Service are there for all to see.  Too bad if someone did not read them before signing up.  That's the problem with our suit happy culture; what ever happened to caveat emptor (did no one watch that episode of the Brady Bunch when Greg bought the piece of junk car???  geesh).

I really haven't encountered anything this article say. I don't push that hard to get a "throttle" and I usually takes me a day or two to get my dvd. I never watch all three dvd the same day I usually break them up for the week. Most I watched was maybe two the same day.

As for the "long or "very long wait" that only really comes up with the new released dvd for me and takes about a week before I get it.

The only problem I actually have is with dvds I never get that get lost in the mail. Seems to be a high number for me even though they still haven't charged me yet.

I haven't had any issues yet.  No throttling, no lost DVD's.  A couple of broken ones, but those were rapidly replaced.  It takes 2-3 days TOPS to get my movies, usually not 3.  I get 4 at a time, and honestly?  I take awhile with them now that I'm working mucho overtime, going to school and buying our first house.

I never thought that my movie habit would have to take a backseat to LIFE.  I'm rather depressed about this.  Might have to watch Galaxina....or, maybe...possibly....Gigli.

My dad told me about this yesterday. I live in a city with a service center (2 day - at the most -  turn around), and haven't had that throttling problem either. (My dad was acting like a major jerk about it too, but that's a completely different story.)

OK, I am going to assume that the news story was really talking about isolated cases here, the real abusers of the syetem, then blowing up the story.  If this crowd of movie folks hasn't seen it, no one has.
I'm still not a subscrier. Like Amanda, life just gets in the way.  I did spend most of yesterday afternoon watching my Christmas DVDs.   But thats a sadly rare thing.
