'Russ meyer: assault with a deadly bosom'
What a great name for a session of screenings of Russ Meyer films.
Anyways, once again, for their 'Freaky Fridays' sessions, ACMI are showing a bunch of kickass films, this time via a Russ Meyer tribute month [or thereabouts.]
Since I've never actually seen a Meyer's film [they never got too big a release on VHS here as far as I know, and only recently came out on DVD] I thought it would be a good opportunity to go see some big bosoms and kick ass girls [and some nice cult movies thrown in for good measure] and was seeking advice as to which ones would be best. Since this is at an actual cinema, rather than just going to the video store, it should be loads of fun!

Or for the lazy, they are showing:
The immoral mr teas
Vixen!
Faster, p***ycat! kill! kill!
Mudhoney
Beyond the valley of the dolls
Supervixens
Obviously I'm not going to be able to see them all, but I do have my eye on Faster, p***ycat and either Vixen! or Supervixens.
Has anyone seen any of these films and would like to comment on them? I wouldn't mind hearing some opinions on them before I spend my 'hard' earned cash to see them.
Dean, I think you're too young for this Russ Meyer, although I was only 16 when introduced to his work at the local drive-in. You really need to watch Beyond the Valley of the Dolls, which is film critic Roger Eberts one venture into screen writing.
Russ definitely like those boobies.
Looking at their web page, ACMI looks like a really cool organization.
Dean,
I'd recommend catching Faster p***ycat, and Beyond The Valley of the Dolls. Both are loads of fun, and quite strange.

I'll keep that in mind, both the suggestion for Beyond, and Trek, I do appreciate you trying to protect my innocence, but sadly I have ruined it by watching 'I spit on your grave' the other day, and some other very nasty, horrible films I bought for a few dollars, which really are quite terrible in a bad 'I feel kind of crap watching this yet will keep on watching' sort of way. Will possibly post a review or two if I don't feel too crap about them still [damn Nazi killer-with-a-pike film].

That they are, that they are. It's one of the only outlets we have for being shown some films out of the mainstream on the big screen. A while back I saw Braindead [Dead Alive] there at Freaky Fridays, and I tell you, it's alot better to watch cult films in a crowd full of like-minded people on the big screen, rather than alone at home or with a few friends. Lots of fun all round.
Haven't seen a Russ Meyer film yet. Not easy to find these films without paying alot and now Dean gets to see them on Australian TV.

I should clarify that they are screening at a cinema, not TV, kind of like an exhibition I guess, though just the one screening per film. So it's at the movies, which makes it all the more 'big' if you know what Russ Meyer's is all about I guess. [Yes, I am very lame.]
Oh and for my second point; hahadeeha ha. (http://www.smileys.ws/smls/cheeky/00000031.gif)
Well, keep me abreast on the Russ Meyer film exihibition. On the big screen even.
While I have heard of Russ Meyer and his films, like Scott, I have never had the fortune or misfortune to see any of them. Though, I haveI seen Russ Meyer's "Beyond the Valley of the Dolls" described as being "audacious." Actually, I've seen that one and Ken Russell's "Lair of the White Worm" described as being two of the most audacious films ever made.
These films have always been expensive to buy. However, I happened to check over at the Russ Meyer website and noticed that they are having a sale if you buy at least 2 DVDs at a time - $25 each. Says that it is good until the 28th of this month. That is a decent deal if you are used to buying them for about $35 to $40 each (since the DVDs became available on a limited basis).
And I still remember the B-Fest where they projector was off, effectively cutting off all the women's heads in "Faster p***ycat, Kill, Kill!" This resulted in scenes where it appeared the breasts were talking. I think Russ would have found that amusing.

I guess Netflix won't pick them up since they cost to much?
I've never seen a Russ Meyer flick either, but have read a lot about his movies, especially when I was in HS, just from them being listed in the Video Movie Guide and a few other books.
Russ Meyer. When you need only the best in cheesecake.
