Title: VOYAGE TO THE PREHISTORIC PLANET (1965)
Post by: The Burgomaster on February 26, 2006, 08:25:46 AM
This is one of those famous "cut-and-paste" movies from the 1960s.

The opening credits list Basil Rathbone as the star, but he's only in it for about 5 minutes.  Another star is Faith Domergue, who is in it for about 12 minutes.  The rest of the movie is a dubbed Soviet sci-fi flick about a group of cosmonauts and a robot landing on Venus.  They encounter rubber dinosaurs and other creatures (including a pteredactyl that's about as convincing as the monster in THE GIANT CLAW) and find themselves fleeing from hot lava.  Meanwhile, scenes of Basil Rathbone and Faith Domergue trying to communicate with them via radio are edited in from time-to-time.

I read that VOYAGE TO THE PLANET OF PREHISTORIC WOMEN uses footage from the same Soviet movie, except this time scenes of Mamie Van Doren are edited in!  I can't wait to watch it!

Both movies are included in the SCI-FI CLASSICS 50 MOVIE PACK.  You have been warned.

The Russian film PLANETA BURG is very good on it's own. Not sure why anyone felt the need to add stuff to it. It's a good Sci-Fi film of the 60's.

VOYAGE TO THE PLANET OF PREHISTORIC WOMEN with the music and Mamie Van Doren is odd. As you never see the women make contact with the astronauts.

Saw both VOYAGE TO A PREHISTORIC PLANET and VOYAGE TO THE PLANET OF PREHISTORIC WOMAN. The only good parts are the original Russian portions of the film.

I wonder if they cut anything "out" of the original and if so then I'd like to see the original version.

I remember there was another movie were four scientists two men and two woman land on another planet with dinosaurs. It was in black and white, I never saw it but I have a little 30 or so minute that is full of old movie previews.

On scene had them running down a large hill, one of the men shoots a riffle back up from where they came from at a dinosaur, yeah I think the dinos in these movie were reptiles and lizards.

What movie was that? I thought Voyage was it until I heard there was a robot in the crew.

You're probably thinking of KING DINOSAUR (1955).

Picked up my copy of this DVD from my local Meijer for about $2.  The cheesy sets are great.
