For the last few weeks I've been wanting to see Godzilla Final Wars, the blockbuster down the street has this little card with the poster on it, now normally there would be DVD's or tapes behind it but everytime I checked there was nothing. I asked a person at the desk about this and she said that someone had a already bought it. ("******!") I didn't ask why they kept the dumb card poster up there but thought "well eventually they might get another copy"
But today on the way home from a job interview I stopped at Hollywood video. I havn't been there for a while because my brother amassed a helluva late fee because he kept "Battlefield Earth" for a long time to make "YTMND"'s (another website)
So today I said "**** it!" and went inside to check it out. They had a copy of Final Wars in, then I looked around and saw they still had Destroy All Monsters there also. So I rented both and finally took care of that late fee, so now I'm not afraid to go back in there.
And maybe I'll squeeze in Biolante also.
Godzilla time.
Oh man, you lucky guy. I may watch Destroy all Monsters tonight, now. Wish I could get final wars.

The thing I don't like about this version of DaM is the dubbing, I heard there was a better version. This version has them saying "RIGHT!" every three minutes or so.
The real question here is why your brother held onto Battlefield Earth for so long? Does he threaten to sue you when you ask him about it?
Anyway, I've got Destroy All Monsters on DVD [yippee!], though off the top of my head I can't think if the dub had them saying right every three minutes [since I watched it with the subtitles on and just sort of zoned out]
Well not every three minutes. But I'm at the 45 minute mark and I'm up to 13. If you say it so often I begin twitching.
And the reason why my brother had Battlefield Earth for so long is because there's this website called You're the Man Now Dog.com (or just YTMND.com). At this site people will take a picture or make a little video, add caption to it and most often a sound. My brother was making YTMND's of Battlefield Earth. The sound will always repeat.
Damn the sites not working right now. Most often the YTMND's are for comidic purposes. Such as I think my brother made one of Terl forcing a rat down the hero's throat with the line "Hungry, man animal? It's lunch time!"
Don't worry he had the movie for honorable purposes. When the sites fixed I'll give you some examples.
Final Wars is the best looking one of the Godzilla movies I've seen. It does have a silly plot about the aliens and mutants, and I thought it stayed away from the monsters too long . But the time when the big guy is on the screen makes it all worth watching.
I got it off pay per view and it was subtitled.
I'm scheduled to have sinus surgery on Monday morning. So I have a week alone at home while recovering. I stocked up on cheese for the week. Lots of claymation monsters (1933 King Kong, Mighty Joe Young), some big budget sci-fi I have been putting off, some rubber suits, and some animation. If any of it is worth the time, I'll put in a report.
Heck with the pain pills, I may just love them all.

Oh yeah , I also found my box of elderly MST3K videotapes. Some might still be viewable 10 years later. Looking forward to finding out.

Nice find Ed with the MST3K tapes.
Franly, what with the Peter Jackson "King Kong" remake and all, I'm suprised there's no Special Edition of "King Kong VS Godzilla"
I STILL think Godzilla was robbed of his victory...
Didn't the Japanese version end with Big Green winning? I could be mis-remembering. OK, times up I'm off to the doc for surgery...yay?

Nah, that a frequant missunderstanding.
Actualy, It was Beauty that drowned the savage beast!...
No, both versions ended in a tie, but Kong was supposed to win.
HOW, i don'tr know. He's just a big ape, Godzilla is a radioactive monster.
According to IMDB: "Although fans of both Kong and Godzilla argue to this day, Toho has declared that King Kong was meant to win. Kong was much more popular than Godzilla at this time, and was the obvious choice to win audiences over."
There ya go...
I does make since that the more popular monster won, Godzilla wasn't nearly as popular back then as he is today.
But it does kind of look like a draw.
Come on! King Kong's only advantage over human beings is his height.
With him being as tall as Godzilla, the davatange is lost,. Now he's just a gorilla.
And they got it all wrong anyway. King Kong is 50 foot tall. Godzilla is 100 foot tall. Godzilla is taller than King Kong.
OK, I'll just clear up some things... first off, about King Kong vs. Godzilla:
1. Many fights were fixed back in the early Godzilla movies. Godzilla was new in town, and needed the money, so he took a few dives... besides Kong, he also let Mothra get the upper hand in their first skirmish. Kong wouldn't stand a chance, and it may explain- well, besides the whole copyright/ trademark thing- why there's never been a rematch. Mothra on the other hand was more of a good sport, and to this day continues to give G-fans proper service by showing up strictly so she can get her wings clipped.
2. Despite being rereleased with King Kong Escapes- as well as being returned to the proper letterboxed format- this is as close as such a film will probably be ever released in this country.
3. Despite there being no alternate Japanese ending, many foreign movie posters for giant monster movies have since had Kong and Godzilla's names tacked on to draw an audience... I once saw a German poster for Godzilla vs. Megalon that had Kong's name on it.
Now, about Destroy All Monsters:
I know the dub you guys are referring to, and in the entire film they say "right" about 23 times. You could almost play a Destroy All Monsters drinking game with it. I always connect this film with Gappa because the guy dubbing the voice of the male lead is the same in both Amercanized versions.
And lastly, Final Wars:
I've heard a lot of hardcore G-fans bash this film for "being a mess", but I think a better reviewer would say this film is deceptively good. I picked up a copy months ago (on Christmas Eve, in fact), and I still keep watching it. I've actually watched it twice in a row at times. It's more fun than the campy G films, with better effects than most of the entire series, plus the pacing is much, much better (I hope we can bid a fond farewell to the Godzilla movies that take nearly 45 minutes to just show a monster). I love this movie.
You said that Godzilla took a dive in "King Kong VS Godzila2, but that match ended in a draw.
Atually they said "right" about 40 times in Destroy All Monsters, I count "all right" also since they're still saying the word.
And I noticed how King Kong kept appearing on posters of movies that he never appeared in.
King Kong comes in two sizes. Big Animal, and Kaiju.
Only the latter had a chance aginst the Big G.
The original would have been a light snack for Godzilla.
Final Wars was fun. I wasen't expecting Shakespear, and brother, did i not get that!
Its just like Anime. Style and method, over logic and substance.
Sometimes you feel like going nuts, sometimes ya don't...
OK, what is the difference between Big Animal Kong and Kaiju Kong?
Just size really. I think the American version of KK vs G gave him power over electricity.
Even IF he had electricity powers (and where did THAT come from?), he STILL couldn't beat Godzilla.
What's electricity gonna do to a 100 foot radioactive monster?
Well, the Toho Kong just did a Battery bit, and zapped G with some Lightening he stored up.
The original Kong is too small to affect G, nence the "Up scale" in KK Vs. G.
I think Mecha-Kong could give G a run for his money.
Give him a 20inch cannon/rifle, Laser sholder mounts, and a big ass AX, and you got the Amurricananswer to Mecha-Godzilla!
It just goes to show, they have to call-in a robot version of Kong because the real Kong wouldn't last two minutes against Godzilla...
