Title: I have FINALLY finished my DVD list
Post by: The Burgomaster on March 06, 2006, 09:26:13 AM
The final tally (as of Sunday, March 5, 2006) is 1,702 titles in my DVD collection.  This is slightly over stated because I have duplicate copies of some movies (for instance, I have NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD on its own DVD, plus I have another copy of it in the HORROR CLASSICS 50 MOVIE PACK).  If I don't count the duplicates, I probably have around 1,690 - 1,695 titles.

I have them all listed in an Excel spreadsheet, which I will hopefully keep up to date so that I don't have to go through this agonizing process again.

Now, if I just had time to actually WATCH them . . .

What's your favorite DVD? Most prized DVD? DVDs you bought on a bet?

Tell us a little about your collection, how long you've been building it and how much further you want to take it before Blue Tooth takes over and DVDs go the way of VHS...

My favorite DVD is THE GODFATHER TRILOGY boxed set (because GODFATHER and GODFATHER, PART II are my favorite movies).

My most prized DVDs (because they are weird) are:

* JESUS CHRIST, VAMPIRE HUNTER
* INVASION OF THE BLOOD FARMERS
* KISS ME, QUICK / THE HOUSE ON BARE MOUNTAIN
* BETTY PAGE: BONDAGE QUEEN
* PLEASE DON'T EAT MY MOTHER
* THE CURSE OF COUNT CHOCULA
* SGT. KABUKIMAN, NYPD
* BELA LUGOSI MEETS A BROOKLYN GORILLA
* BRAIN OF BLOOD
* BLOOD OF GHASTLY HORROR
* BLACKENSTEIN
* FRANKENSTEIN ISLAND
* NUDE ON THE MOON

I have never bought a DVD on a bet (I often buy stupid movies without anyone daring me to do so).

My collection includes everything from silent movies to film noir to musicals to concerts to romances to horror to drama to documentaries to Disney to science fiction (etc., etc.)

I've been building this collection for about 7 years.

I can't let myself worry about new technology.  I'm sure the blue laser systems will take at least 5 to 7 years to gain a foothold.  Early reports are that current DVDs will probably be compatible with the blue laser systems.  If not, I'll just buy 5 or 6 DVD players and keep them in the closet.  That way, when 1 dies I'll always have another to replace it and my DVDs will always be watchable.

Now you need to add a couple hundred more DVDs.

To finish watching all of those I recommend you get lessons from Scott. The guy watches so many movies I don't know how he has time for anything else.

1,000 DVDs??

Wow!

How you've been collecting them?

And what do you DO for a living that lets you afford all that stuff??  (That or what bulk discount do you know that us average joes don't?  :)

BTM - I work as a consultant and I buy most of my DVDs online from Deep Discount DVD.  They run a lot of good specials (they recently had a bunch of movies for under $5.00 each, and they are also running a "buy 2 get 1 free" sale where you can pick up 3 movies for less than $19.  Good titles, too.  I think they have about 900 movies available on the "buy 2 get 1 free" list).  Plus, they always ship everything free.  I've probably spent about $8,000 to $10,000 on that site since I discovered it about 4 years ago.
