Title: If you had to get rid of all but 10 movies in your collection...

Howling III. When I first saw it as a kid I was terriefied of it. When I bought the DVD two years ago I nearly died from boredom.

Now I think any sane person would get rid of their copy of "Alien Warrior" however I'm fasinated by it's awfulness that it's a keeper.

All of my Godzilla movies are keepers, even if I had Godzilla's Revenge.

Hmm, there's something good in nearly everything I watch. Howling III is the only one that comes to my mind right away.

You do realise that by even posing this question, Burgomaster is going to be sitting in his chair, quietly sobbing as he trawls through the thousand-odd dvds he has, saying to each and every one 'I'm going to miss you' and shedding a tear before he throws it in the bin.  Or at least that's what happens in my head. hehe...

As for me, I'm just glad it's movies, since I have quite a few TV series that I can't be without [and I'll tear off the arms of anyone who suggests otherwise!]

Otherwise it's a fairly straightfoward decision since I'll keep it on the legal dvds I own, though I'll look at this next week and go 'no maybe this one should be off the list and this other one on it':

Wolf Creek- because I liked it and I really should support the Aussie industry[we suck]!

Unbreakable- since it has one of my all time favourite scenes in a movie that just works great for me, regardless of how crappy it is regarded.

Fight Club- gotta love subversive, crazy Fincher stuff.

Transformers The Movie- 80s rock and animation in all it's glory

Ghost in the Shell- An anime series and movie which I am unusually obsessed with

Ned- crappy, crappy Aussie comedy/parody about the Ned Kelly Myth.  Great watch though.

The Fifth Element- me likey space opera silliness.

Signs- another Shymalan movie, which despite it's silly ending, had a great build-up and I love how spooked I was when the Aliens were running on the roof and what not [great sound effects]

Forbidden Zone- gotta love silly, nutty Oingo Boingo stuff

and for the last, perhaps, 2046, because despite the fact that I haven't watched it all the way through yet, I really really like the dvd cover [kind of a stupid reason, but a reason nonetheless]

Now ask me next week, and I'll probably ave a different answer!

Boy . . . this is really tough.  My collection is up to over 1,730 movies now, so picking out only 10 to keep would be psychologically damaging.  Without putting hours and hours of thought into it, these are the first ones that come to mind:

* THE GODFATHER TRILOGY (this is sort of a cheat because the set includes 3 movies, but I'm a pretty devious person)

* TAXI DRIVER

* DELIVERANCE

* A CLOCKWORK ORANGE

* THE WILD BUNCH

* THE LAST HOUSE ON THE LEFT

* TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE (original, of course)

* THE FRENCH CONNECTION

* DIRTY HARRY

* FIDDLER ON THE ROOF (beacuse you need at least 1 musical)

If you ask me again tomorrow, I'll probably come up with a different list.

Movies I got rid of, and why:

-"Fight Club" VHS, because that movie insults God, and I don't like people insulting my religion.

-"Gremlins" pirated copy, because the quality was awful

-"Spider-Man 2" pirated copy, because the quality was awful

-"The Incredibles" VHS because, despite how good it is, it's still Disney and Disney animated movies annoy me.

-"Batman Forever" DVD, because they gave the the regular version and I wanted the two-disc Special Edition

Road Warrior
Sin City
Underworld
Batman Begins
Charlies Angels
X-Men

The ones I would have to keep:

Fight Club - Hands down, my favorite film of all time.  Made me realize that I am not a beautiful and unique snowflake; I am the same decaying matter as everything else.  :)

Royal Tenenbaums - Mentioned this one in another post.  I can just watch this one over and over and never get sick of it.

Pulp Fiction - For the same reasons as Tenenbaums.  Great film, never gets old.

Battle Royale - Best film about kids killing each other - ever.

Primer - One of the best Science Fiction films, something I would NOT be able to get rid of.

Alien - The best of the series, in my opinion.  Couldn't imagine not having this one around.

Dawn Of The Dead - Do I really need to explain this one?

3 Extremes - Just watched this one recently, but I know it is one that I will revisit often.

Deliverance - Wouldn't have thought about this one if Burgo hadn't mentioned it.  Same reason as many of the above, it's highly rewatchable.

Tae Guk Gi - In my opinion, this is the best war film ever made.  This is one that everyone should own.

Whoops I read this as "If you had to get rid of ten movies from your collection"!

I'd defentifly keep "Fist of the North Star" since that's a hard to find DVD

Wow!  1,730?  Where do you keep them all?  When do you have time to watch them when you just keep adding to the collection?

By the way...great list!

And as for the musical I would keep...it would be Fantasia.  I have never seen Fiddler on the Roof and always wanted to.  I found a copy at a video store I use to work at and it was damaged, so forgot about it ever since.

Maybe I will watch this sunday.

I have I think I have about 600 (maybe more - I'm not sure) movies now combined between DVD, LD, and VHS. The only one I would get rid of is 'Fast & The Furious'. My dad got it for me for Christmas 2001 when I was still going through my 'Vin Diesel can do no wrong' phase.

I'd keep:

The Lord of the Rings set (Extended Director's Special Platinum Edition) -- because it is all one movie.
The Concert for George (my musical)
Adventures of Baron Munchausen
Plan 9 from Outer Space, beause the future is where I'll be spending my future.
Buckaroo Banzai
South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut (Team America hasn't arrived yet).
Space Nutz -- gotta have one adult title.
I'll have to think about the last three.

Raj - another 'Buckaroo Banzai' fan! I discovered it myself by accident in the summer of 1988 when I was 12 1/2. I still love it to this day, and was beyond ecstatic when it was finally released on DVD a few years ago (after being OOP for many, many years).

I keep my movies on matching bookcases in a spare bedroom.  Actually, all the bookcases in the room are almost full - - I can probably fit about another 20 movies on them.  Luckily, I have 2 more of the same kind of bookcases in the basement.  I suppose I'll have to bring them up soon.

I keep buying and watching, buying and watching.  But it's tough to catch up because I buy them faster than I can watch them.  The 50 movie packs are real killers because you add 50 titles in one shot.  It probably takes me between 5 and 10 weeks to watch 50 movies.  My guess is that I have at least 200 titles that I havent watched yet.

* DIRTY HARRY

* FIDDLER ON THE ROOF (beacuse you need at least 1 musical)

You could get a Clint Eastwood musical  ("Paint Your Wagon") and free up room for one more movie...

Hmm.....10 to keep.  Ouch.

Buckaroo Banzai, as well.  Love it.  Adore it.  Torture my husband with it.
The Princess Bride
Monty Python and the Holy Grail
Dawn of the Dead
Aliens - My personal favorite of the series, although after recent repeated watching of Resurrection, I've decided that it's not so crappy.  Ron Perlman is just so wonderful, he redeems it.
And I think it was written by Joss Whedon.
Sling Blade
Little Voice
Saving Grace
Meet the Feebles - another husband torture device
Steel Magnolias.  My personal, private, chick flick.

The Princess Bride..a great movie!  "Do you know Socrates, Plato?"; "Yes"; "Morons!"  haha!

I also noticed Litte Voice.  I am not sure it would be a keeper in my top 10 but I loved that movie.  I was suppose to see Life is Beautiful, but it was sold out, so I reluctantly agreed to Little Voice, needless to say I was MORE than pleasantly surprised!  Brilliant script, brilliant acting.
