I recently received the rather bonkers Toho movie "The War in Space" and have been trying to watch it. Due to some lack of sleep issues (Andy is teething), I have yet to get through it without conking out. Tonight will be my third try.
What I have seen, about fifty minutes, is pretty impressive. Lots of little sphere alien spacecraft shooting at an island, plus what crazy acting. I cannot imagine that whoever wrote much of the script had any true interaction with humanity. It is great.
Humanity's last weapon, the Goten (or something close to that) looks much like the Gotengo from Atragon. It appears to be pretty much impervious to the aliens' smaller attack craft, because as the lasers and everything blast at it the people inside calmly look around and touch a few controls. Then, for lack of a better word, aerial depth charges shoot out and blow the little sphere ships to pieces.
Great stuff so far, especially what I saw just before falling asleep last night: the captured female crewmember from the Goten being held captive by a giant horned wookie!
All right! Aerial Depth Charges in SPACE!
Sorry to hear about Andy teething, youch!
I've had a few of those third attempts myself. Usually because I'm watching too late at night. After 10 pm.
