THE LAST MAN ON EARTH has now become on of my favorite films of all. If you like NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD then you can not miss this great film starring Vincent Price. This may be the best Vincent Price movie I have ever seen. OMEGA MAN is a neat film, but it dosn't compare to the original. It gave me the feel of THE DAY THE EARTH CAUGHT FIRE or DAY OF THE TRIFFIDS. Diamond Entertainment has a good DVD copy of this film. I can't say enough about this film.
Haven't seen this one, only "The Omega man" and I though it was really edgy, but very funny, and I really loved the first 15 minutes. Ever wondered how it'll be to become the last person on Earth? How would you spend time? How to avoid becoming a madman? After that I read the novel by Richard Matheson and wow! it is probably the best sci-fi novel I have ever read, together with some John Windham stuff. Highly recommended.
BTW, there was a remake on the works with Arnold and Ridley Scott, but was cancelled. Last thing I heard is that Michael Bay wants to do it with Will Smith. A pity really, the Arnold version had a nice script, and it may be found at scripts webpages under the title "I am legend".
THE LAST MAN ON EARTH is much more serious than THE OMEGA MAN--and more horrific.
I thought the Diamond transfer was pretty poor. I'd like to see TLMON get better treatment in the MGM Midnight Movies series or some such. Still, it's better than nothing.
Another intriguing "last man on earth" movie is the made-in-New Zealand movie THE QUIET EARTH. Quite good actually.
You're in luck-- Last I heard, LMOE was slated for the next batch of Midnite Movies.
I thought I'd heard that rumor. August isn't it?
What else are they releasing?
I heard the lineup was:
Last Man On Earth
Return of the Living Dead
The Raven (w/ Karloff, Price, & Lorre)
The Comedy of Terrors
Return of Count Yorga
Invisible Invaders
Hound of the Baskervilles (w/ Cushing & Lee)
Gas-s-s-s
Panic in the Year 2000
Return of Count Yorga. Now thats movie making !!!!! The original is already out under MGM Midnight Movies.
Have seen both "Last Man on Earth" and "Omega Man." Much prefer "Last Man on Earth" to "Omega Man."
