It gets weirder. According to my French Anime Mag Lindsey Lohan and Joss Whedon have been tapped for the leading role and script.
BY FOX!!!!????
Lohan might actually make a good Sailor Scout (either Sailor Moon or Venus) but Whedon can't even write a cheque.
Sailor Moon, especially, is something that doesn't need to be Whedonized.
Does this mean Sailor Moon and Tuxedo Mask will give a "fair & balanced" account of affairs in Iraq? Will Bill O' Reilly find a way to worm his money grubbing claws into this? Special guest appearance by Dick Cheney & Donald Rumsfeld.
No, but Homer and Bart will probably have cameos
Joss Whedon is actually a very talented writer with a great deal of experience writing in the fantasy/sci-fi genre. Personally, I suspect the movie will flop because the time for Sailor Moon has long passed. Even the anime conventions have moved beyond her.....
Many years ago, I heard this same rumor, except that it was Alicia Silverstone that was to be cast.
Agreeing with Shadowphile...Sailor Moon is kinda "yesterday's fad" (and I was never a fan anyway...I think when SM was big I was into Ranma 1/2)
Uh, the last I checked, there already is a live-action Sailor Moon... in Japan. There is (or was) also a never-aired combo live-action-and-CG series by Saban probably rotting in someone's vault somewhere. That infamous "Saban Moon" clip of what would presumably have been the opening clip is now on YouTube, of course:

This reminds us that, had Saban had its way, our kids' TVs would have poisoned their minds with an amount of inanity that would make the Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers show look tasteful and well-made in comparison.
In other words, live-action North American Sailor Moon? Been there, done that. Fuhgeddaboudit!

True, but Japan has a different time zone, which seems to be about five years different than here... somethings are incredibly ahead of us, while others lag way behind. This is why the possibility of something like Gamera vs. Hello Kitty is never completely out of the question or why you can buy edible panties from vending machines there. Plus, everybody being all crowded together on that relatively small land mass doesn't ease things one bit, nor does the industrial pollution, or the rapid westernization, or the two atomic bombs, or the code of taking one for the good of the whole, or the... well the point is it's just different.
Amen, KidsTV absolutely sucks... they seem to be satisfied making a reputation of gorging on anime and altering to the point of absurdity, than vomiting it upon the American viewers. I actually felt sympathy for Yugioh fans once someone told me how the actual anime was supposed to progress.
This is not a new idea. Way back in 2001, Disney wanted to do a "Sailor Moon" feature film. But, I don't remember, whether it was to be live-action or animated.
why you can buy edible panties from vending machines there
I was kinda hoping for some Najica Panties but I thought my wife would object
Perhaps SM may be 'yesterday's thing but I think it's still an important part of anime past present and future.
Would you put Macross/Robotech in that same catergory, I mean your opinion.
Robotech may have a place in anime history but I think it's time has passed. A Robotech movie now would not do as well as it would have 15 years ago....

Hah, just tell her they were a birthday present... and if she catches you, um, "sampling" them, tell her it was because you didn't know what flavor she'd like (like the "I didn't know your size and I wanted to suprise you" routine).
These are the kinds of things you'll find in a society as repressed as Japan's. I happen to prefer the subways where you can grope people, but that's just me...
Did anyone notice the obligatory disabled character? Gotta love political correctness....
He he, the Najica Panties were part of he marketing ad for the Anime "Najica Blitz Tactics" which raised the meaing of 'fan service' to a whole 'nuther extreme :) Yo got a set in the DVD when you bought the DVD, which really adds a new twist on 'DVD extrats'. I'm pretty sure they weren't edible
