I know I'm probably the only one here who keeps up with what's goinng on in the Star Trek universe, but for those who don't know JJ Abrams of Alias, Lost, and MI3 fame has been hired to produce and direct the next Star Trek feature film. Some of his cohorts from his other projects will also be participating.
The plot and which Trek show personnel will be in it is still being kept quiet, though the Star Fleet Academy idea is still kicking aound. Well, this morning the Insider is claiming that Abrams wants to tap Matt Damon to portray James T. Kirk and has apparently got the Shatman's okay.
My big question is, if this movie is about the original crew, who could play Spock, McCoy, Scottie, and the rest?

That just seems odd to me. I'll believe it when I see it.
*JPH falls out of chair laughing, gets up, reads it again, then falls down laughing a second time*
I see Heath Ledger as Kirk. Think about it. If they really want to take Star Trek in a new direction, and boost the female audience, this could work. Cast Ledger as Kirk and Jake Gyllenhaal as Spock, et voila....Brokeback Starship!
LMAO
I think Jim Carey should play Spock.The dad from Malcolm in the Middle could be Kirk. McCoy ...hmmm...how about Dr.Phil? OH!!! the crazy guy from American Psycho would make a good Spock!!!!
You mean Christian Bale or someone else?
Ben Affleck for Spock. He's already go the emotionless delivery down pat.
Jack Black for McCoy. I think he could do the properly deadpan delivery of the line 'He's dead, Jim.'
Scott Baio as Scottie because somebody needs to give that man a job.
AND
Halle Barry as Uhura
Jet Li as Sulu
Can't think of a good Checkov
I'd love to come up with a cast - but the Matt Damon thing keeps throwing a block at me...
(edited to add:) How about...Hilary Duff as Yeoman Rand?
Jessica Simpson as Yeoman Rand(y)
My idea may not be completely popular but this could go in the direction of some other recent films...Cast could be made up of Ice T, Cedric the Entertainer...you get the idea I think.
I simply cannot see Matt Damon as a young Kirk.
No way!
I think they're gonna have to find an unknown to play him.
Here is my projected cast:
* Spock - Vin Diesel
* Sulu - Jackie Chan
* Uhura - Tina Turner
* Chekhov - Will Farrell
* Dr. McCoy - Billy Bob Thornton
* Scottie - Jack Black
Well, it would be funny anyway . . .
Burgo...your list is great except you need to use popular people for certain roles and I'm sorry my friend, Tina Turner is old news. Uhura would obviously need to be played by Beyonce.
I think Diesel as Spock would be killer...picture him with the ears saying "fascinating"...I can't stop laughing....
odinn:
I wouldn't let Beyonce anywhere near the Enterprise. Tina Turner is much more electrifying and would make a great Uhura.

Oh...I know what you're saying...I'm just looking at it from the perspective that the movie makers do these days.
I think it is a great idea, odinn7. Of coruse, Uhura would have to be played by some white actress.

You know...you are BRILLIANT! I hadn't considered this possibility of movie making...Hmmm....who would we get...Jessica Biel? No...hmmm...I know! Rosie O'Donnel! I hear she's looking for work.
I bet many of you thought I was going to put Kate Beckinsale in this post somewhere, didn't you?
