Title: Original ULTRAMAN T.V. episodes - soon on DVD
Post by: The Burgomaster on July 17, 2006, 08:42:26 AM

I have already preordered the first volume of the original ULTRAMAN T.V. series from the 1960s.  I haven't seen this show since I was about 6 or 7 years old, so it should be a real treat.  Deep Discount DVD is selling it for $21.77, a nice savings from the $39.95 suggested retail price.

Release date:  July 18!!!!!!

Oh sweet!

They sometimes showed Ultraman/Ultra Seven clips on the classic Space Ghost Coast to Coast show. I think my first taste of Ultraman was with the toys of the 1990 mini-series, then the SG clips. Then two years ago my interest returned when I picked up the first four issues of Ultraman Tiga (A new story where this Ultraman's body could go into a buff strong mode and a smaller and blue fast mood)

I'm buying this!

Wait this is the original? I thought that was called Ultra Q

And when does Ultra Seven come into play? I thought that was from the sixities also.

It's such a big Ultraman size universe!

The one I watched as a kid in the 60s was just called ULTRAMAN.  I never heard of ULTRA Q!

Okay Wikipedia answered that.

Ultra Q was a show that could be called "Pre-Ultraman" it had a giant guy like UM but the show itself was originally more Twilight Zone like, then they were pressured to put more monsters in it.

Though there was Ultra Q, UltraMan is considered to be the first. Ultra Seven is the second series and was considered even better than Ultra Man.

I think Ultraman Tiga is my favorite, I got the first four issues of a comic book series based on the show. I hope that show is on DVD.

I received this today and watched the first episode.  DAMN, this was much more realistic when I was 6 years old!  Impossibly cheap, with the most obvious toy jet planes, houses, etc., and super-ridiculous actor-in-a-rubber-suit monsters.  In other words, GREAT entertainment and loads of fun!  And one of the best theme songs EVER:

Ultraman!  Ultraman!
Here he comes from the sky!
Ultraman!  Ultraman!
Watch our hero fly!
In a super-jet he comes,
From a billion miles away,
From a distant planet land,
He's our hero Ultraman!

I feel like a kid again . . .

Dave:  "Ultra Q" is the name that shows up in the original Japanese credits (which are on the discs in this set).  The "special features" includes the Americanized opening credits, where the show is called "Ultraman."

'Ultraman' was so awesome!! I watched the re-runs in the late '70s - early '80s and I absolutely loved it!!
