I recently watched the brilliant piece of cinema called "The Mighty Peking Man" .I watched it back to back 3 times just to relive the sheer mastery of the acting, dialogue, directing and imo the best special effects ever seen in a movie. For you who haven’t seen this yet please do yourself a favour and watch this masterpiece. I shared it with my wife and all my friends and they were all dumbstruck or left speechless by its brilliance, as they haven’t spoken to me since. If you have seen it can I have you’re comments please...
I have the DVD version endorsed by Quentin Tarantino. I haven't watched it in awhile, but I do remember that it is a cinematic classic that ranks WAY up there with movies like MATANGO: ATTACK OF THE MUSHROOM PEOPLE. If you enjoyed this one, you should also get your hands on a copy of QUEEN KONG.
I didn't like this movie. I thought it was worse -- much, much worse -- than even the '76 King Kong. It should have been brilliant but ... just wasn't. I turned it off when Johnny Fang reconciled with his fiance *after* he took Jungle Girl away from everything she ever knew on the pretense that he loved her. What a f**king jerk.
This movie was far more entertaining than Kong 76 and with only a fraction of it's budget I'll bet.
Ooooh, put down to Hollywood!
I simultaneously agree with both akiratubo and daveblackeye 15- I'd rank it above Gappa and Yongary (even the first Gamera), but well below Matango. Matango is- for me, anyways- the only non-kaiju film to make it to the higher ranks... well above Godzilla vs. Hedorah & Ghidrah, the 3 Headed Monster, but not high enough to compete with Rodan, The Mysterians or GMK. Mighty Peking Man is better than the worst, as far as imitators go, but it's kind of silly.
Yes, but it doth look like a Verry high MST3K potential.
Let the riffing begin!
