I've been working here in Ghent for over a week now, and I'm having bad movie (or ANY movie, for that matter) withdrawal. On the other hand, I'm having beer overload. Many of the beers here are between 9% and 12% alcohol . . . much higher than in the U.S. I'll be flying home to Boston on Friday. I NEED MOVIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You should have told me! You could have come over and we'd have watched La revanche des mortes vivantes.

Very cool. I have fond memories of Belgium, having spend only scant hours there in our "flee" from Paris when I was 14 or so (late '70's). I say "flee" because we HATED Paris so bad, we left before our scheduled time and sought refuge in Brussels enroute to Amsterdam. The people we encountered there were VERY NICE (unlike Paris) and the concierge of a very, very posh (and expensive - we could never have afforded a room) hotel even allowed us to 'camp' in the lobby, using their rest rooms to 'freshen up' while waiting to depart to The Netherlands.
I was always sorry to have only spend a few hours there, but Belgium will always hold a special place to me - it's where I re-encountered human-like people after the horror that was France. (I know that outside Paris, the French are not-so-bad, but unfortunately, I did not get to visit anywhere else).
I hope your experience with the Belgian people is likewise as rich.
I loved visiting Belgium. A great country and I will doubtless go again.

On behalf of my countrymen, thanks for the kind comments!
Hey Burgo, bring back a whole bunch of beer for us -- use your carryon luggage for it.
(on second thought, don't. I would hate to see all that fine beer get poured down the drain.)
Mmmmm, Belgian Ale.
This thread's really tempting me to step off the wagon.
Unfortuntately, the carry-on restrictions are tighter here than they are in the U.S. I can't even carry boxes of chocolate on the plane. All they are allowing me to take on the return flight is ONE plastic bag (preferably transparent) containing only a few items (like ONE book, a laptop, and a few other things). I can't even take my iPod on the plane. This sucks.
But I've had some great beer here. My favorite is Westmalle Trippel.
