I've been waiting a long time for this DVD release, and now it's here.
This movie (which is possibly the creepiest "evil twin" movie ever made) benefits from a top-notch director (Robert Mulligan) and a strong screenplay by Tom Tryon (who also wrote the excellent novel upon which this was based . . . and who also starred in I MARRIED A MONSTER FROM OUTER SPACE!)
I saw this at the drive-in back in the early 1970s on a double feature with THE EXORCIST. More than 30 years later, it is still a powerful psychological thriller.
This movie is rated PG and is not at all gory. But what the director does NOT show you is more horrifying than anything that you could see on the screen. This movie will chill you to the bone.
Movie geek fact:Tom Tyron, who wrote the story, played the part of the monster inthe classic I MARRIED A MONSTER FROM OUTER SPACE>. Tom Tyron!. the OTHER is a classic 70's creepy movie for me!
Actually, this is one of those rare movies where the book and the movie are equally good. As always, there are differences between the book and the movie, but the basic plot and characters are the same. Both novel and film are creepy in their own ways.
Saw this on TV a few years back it was a wierd one for sure.
Absolutely one of the creepiest movies ever. What is discovered in the barrel has to be one of the most horrifying moments in cinema, not because of gore, but because of the buildup to the revelation.
I have to add this to my MUST BUY list. Unlike many "twin" flicks, this one features a true pair, Chris and Martin Udvarnoky, as the Perry boys Niles and Holland, one of which is homicidal, one of which is something else. Brilliant.

What a perfect description of the movie! Well done, onionhead.
