I heard that "Over the Rainbow" was not the end soundtrack of the original version of Dr. Phibes Rises Again. I also heard from someone that the original was better. Does anyone have a clip?
What my understanding is that due to copyright difficulties, Price's version of "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" was simply replaced by background music lifted from elsewhere in the film.

Thanks anyway Gerry, but I already own the DVD (I am a bit surprised, I thought that Price might have sang the entire song in one version :( ) I am still looking for the replacement bit they used for the ending.

What Gerry posted is CORRECT....the original theatrical release HAD that version of Price singing "Over The Rainbow", and what was put onto the soundtrack CD by Perseverance Records WAS lifted from the movie itself. There was NO "official" release nor was there a "longer" version.
Same thing for the instrumental bit used for the 80's Vestron Video release (due to copyrights to the song)....the instrumental bit is what was used.

I never knew it was a controversy --
It must be a very long time since I've seen this on TV, but I remember laughing at Price singing "Rainbow", and a VHS version that I rented years ago to show my wife -- this would be at least 10 or 15 years ago -- had Price singing on it as well.
Didn't know about the instrumental stuff, but having dealt with nonsense like it myself, I'm not surprised.
