This is extremely obscure, but back when Kung Fu Theater graced TV sets on Saturday mornings, there was one movie in particular that caught my attention: there were two guys fighting this evil warlord who had some kind of jacket made out of golden coins that were all laced together. Whenever this warlord fought someone and he was losing, he'd take off the jacket and it would turn into a giant boomerang-style weapon which he hurled at his opponents! One of the heroes used an umbrella to render this weapon useless, and the warlord was killed with several blows to the back of his head (his only weak spot) with a piece of wood.

It almost sounds like you're talking about Drunken Wu Tang, except with some of the characters mixed up.
It's from a 1977 Taiwanese film called Dynasty. I haven't actually seen it but read about it in the book Mondo Macabro. Sounds great though.
