Title: Exclusive sci-fi pack from Best Buy - see Andrew's earlier thread
Post by: The Burgomaster on October 08, 2006, 08:37:04 AM
Andrew mentioned this in an earlier thread.  I bought it yesterday and (so far) I am very happy.

This is a 5 movie set (on 3 DVDs).  It is a Best Buy exclusive.  It contains 5 "must have" black & white flicks from the 1950s, including:

* THE INCREDIBLE SHRINKING MAN (watched it last night - - widescreen and excellent quality)
* THE MONOLITH MONSTERS
* TARANTULA
* MONSTER ON THE CAMPUS
* THE MOLE PEOPLE

This is NOT a slapped together "public domain" type DVD set.  It is high quality stuff from Universal (with the typical Universal logo introduction that is on all Universal DVDs) and I think it only cost me $19.95 (maybe less - - I don't have the receipt in front on me).  I encourage you to go to Best Buy and pick up a copy.

Yea, I've been wanting to see THE MONOLITH MONSTERS and THE MOLE PEOPLE for years now. Saw it on the shelve at Best Buy after Andrew mentioned it recently. It was tempting.

Monolith Monsters is actually very good... Mole People on the other hand, squarely belongs in the MST3K bin.

I watched the MONOLITH MONSTERS last night.  I had never seen it before.  Very interesting sci-fi flick, and definitely unique for the 1950s because there were no giant, radioactive lizards, spiders, ants, grasshoppers, etc., in it.

Definitely, but you have to love John Agar finally finding the woman of his dreams, freeing her from slavery from the melanin-deficient rulers of the underground kingdom, causing the total overthrow of that limited kingdom, and even surviving a massive cave-in and dangerous ascent to the surface with his hard-earned booty.  Then he watches as she gets squished by a tumbling pillar.  Hahaha!  Forgot to say your prayers that morning, didn't you Mr. Bentley?
