I have recently been watching some ant movies. "Them" "Empire of the Ants" and
"Ants". There is one movie that I am looking for from the 70's. This movie is about ants that attack the residents of a small desert town and throughout the movie you see the ants in some kind of conference inside of a large ant mound. There is also a computer lab close to where this is going on and the lab tech inside picks up a signal. The tech realizes this is some sort of communication from the ants and is trying to reply. While this is going on the ants are building these reflective mounds out of sand to heat up the lab and short out the cooling system in the lab and overheating the computers inside so they can gain access and kill the people hiding inside. So the race is on the break the ants code and communicate with them before the people get eaten. They do break the code and the ants are using mathematics/geometric shapes to communicate. I have no idea what this movie is called and would love to see it again. If you have any suggestions please let me know. Thanks!
I believe this is Phase IV.
yup the reflective mounds are definately from phase IV
Phase IV is a great movie, try and see the un-MST3000 version.
Uhm....i don't think Mike and the bots got to that one.
Season 0, Episodes 1-22 KTMA according to Sloe Gin Circus, I havn't seen the episode though. MST3000 isnt shown over here, the only way I get to see it is on import DVD or very rare Sci-Fi specials.
I just think that it's too good a movie to be MYSTied.
I taped EMPIRE OF THE ANTS and will be viewing it as soon as possible, it looks great. I may have seen it long ago.
I keep forgetting about this on their "Season 0" schedule, but Darkstar is certainly correct. Here is some backup:
http://www.mst3kinfo.com/episodes/epktma.html"Phase IV" is weird enough for Joel and the Bots to have had a good time playing with it. For the life of me I cannot figure out why the one guy was antagonizing the ants. Super-intelligent insects that build skyscrapers? I'll just start shooting down their pretty buildings. Ahhh! Why do they hate me?
The effect of the ants chewing through things in five seconds, complete with sawdust, was pretty B too.
Andrew
Good to see you back Andrew, hope everything is ok.

I'd just like to point out that this is about the finest monster movie ever made, and because it's owned by Warner's, it probably won't be out on DVD for another ten or fifteen years. If then.
Does anyone remember the classic Amiga game It Came From the Desert ? Based on several 50's b movies (most of it was Them!), it was one of my favorite games at the time.

I want to thank you very much and the gentleman that asked the question. I've been trying to find the name of that movie for about 30 years. When I read the question it was familiar. He didn't mention the part that I remembered. The people in the lab tried different colored poisons. Yellow and they produced yellow ants, red poison red ants blue poison blue ants. every time they tried a new poison, the surviving ants brought a sample to the queen she ate it and produced ants that wasn't bothered. Gut I do remember the title once I read it. PHASE IV. Thanks again.
