I just finished recompiling Apache and PHP. Everyone should now have a spell check option.
Flange, that one is for you.
This oughta come in handy.
For some reason, I'm always thinking in terms of big, long fancy words that I have no idea how to spell. It really bugs me to have to spend a long time trying to figure out how to make what I'm trying to say sound more dumber than what I really mean so that I can spell all the words right.
We need to get grammer classes took outa schools real quick so that everybody can think in terms of more littler words.
Indeed. Why use a big word when a diminutive one will do?
I should also point out something I recently learned: Firefox 2.0 has a built in "check as you type" spell check.
Thanks anyway for the spell check feature Andrew.
(I won't be needing it)
For me to misspell a word is unthinkable!
I am obsessive and compulsive when it comes to spelling.
Spelling is extremely important in my opinion.
Ash, I totally agree. My personal mantra is "words matter." I hate it when people use words incorrectly or spell them wrong. I don't use the spell check, either. However it's mostly because I review my post about ten times, looking for mistakes, before hitting the post button. Since I am a lousy typist, my posts would be near incomprehensible if I didn't.
Words are an important tool for communication, and I used to consider myself a bit of a purist regarding spelling etc due to the fact that I was annoyed at people who were using internet/text message lingo in normal writing. I'd write a text message on my phone and cut down the spelling if I needed to, just to fit it in properly.
But I must admit that whilst I'm a bit annoyed at the shortening of words in writing, I'm also quite guilty of making up words, and using bad sentence structure and so on. This is mainly because for posts like these I tend to write on the fly, and as if it's just in my head I suppose. That and I've mentioned before that my vocab is disappearing to the same words over and over again.
I'm also a tad lazy, so I'll only edit a post if it requires more commentary or the mistake is amazingly bad. I'm sure many of us have typed a few 'teh's in our day when talking online.
So the feature is a little redundant on me I guess. That and some certain words are spelt differently in Australia than America [old english vs new english I guess] so it's a shame to forsake my language just to fit in with the gang here! But I know it will come in handy like lilcererus said, for coming up with the right spelling for those pesky long, fancy words.
Thany you for spell check, I can really use it since my own is abominable.
