What the reviewer failed to tell us is that a newer version came out in the mid 70's called USS Poopdeck A sailors Warning. It featured Rock Hudson and Paul Lynnd as seamen Hornsby and Flynn. Tony Curtis was Captain Hornblower. This was geared toward our fighting men of the Vietnam war so the music was a little more updated as Freddy Mercury can be heard singing the title song I Want It All. The plot climax's (and so do some of the people in it) when Seaman Hornsby stops by Seaman Flynn's compartment wearing pink fuzzy slipers, a stolen bathrob from the St Ain Hotel, and holding a rubber duck. Little does Seasman Hornsby know that was not the rubber that Doc (played by George Gobel) had in mind.
In conclusion, the VD film reviewed needs to be put back into circulation for today's fighting man. As you can see, updating the VD films from the WWII era has caused our fighting men to lose there edge (and immune system)just look at Vietnam. The training films of that era keyed in on the not so important issue of The Backpack Your canvas Buddy and not on Ships of Shame! I blame Clinton for this!
I think I'm going to get sick! If ever there was an advertisement for A.) Abstinence B.) Monogamy (With rigorous health check ups.) this would be it.
Technically speaking, in 1942, DE 733 would not be a Destroyer, but a Destroyer, Escort type (Jane's Fighting Ships, 1942) A Destroyer would be designated by the letters and numbers DD 733.
This caught my eye, because my father served on a DE during the Cuban Missle Crisis, and even twenty years later, Destroyer Escort, types were indicated by the letters DE and Destroyers by the letters DD.
But, I see the reviewer corrected his mistake in "Stuff to Watch For," so all is forgiven.
I'm SO curious about the censored image now, I may have to buy the damn thing. Ewwwwwwww, pus-a-licious!
Austin: "Only sailors wear condoms, baby."
Vanessa: "Not in the Nineties, Austin."
Austin: "Well, they should, those filthy beggars! They go from port to port!"
Why does it hurt when I pee?
I actually saw this movie in 1969 in basic training. It ranks right up there with the one on hygiene (Hillbilly stinks, gets wire-brushed, learns to brush his teeth(to a country/western song) and goes to the dance all clean and gets the girl.) Which, of course, leads us to VD. (See, the military ties these things together.) Possbily one of the grossest films made, not counting the one about proper mess hall techniques, where a guy gets trichinosis from undercooked pork, and ralphs for about ten minutes, in technicolor.
Thr reviewer is a genius. I laughed out loud and it took me about ten minutes to read through this.
Bugger...You guys got actual movies?
During basic for the Australian Navy, all we got was the slide show...Just before Lunch!
Mind you, what was more entertaining was the lcture we got from an old Cheif when we got our first postings. He pulled aside all the young blokes who got posted to Western-Based ships. He then gave us the lecture on the dangers of Rockingham women and why the town has the dubious honour of being Australia's "Single Mother Capital" (Can you all say "Child Support" boys?)
Mind you, every time we wnet to any SE Asian port, we wheren't allowed off the gangway unless we carried at least 3 rubbers.
I never actually seen this movie but the review has permittently scared me for life! Now I have visions of rotten bananas dancing though my head! VD is nothing to clap about! OH! THE HORROR! THE HORROR!
My own nuts hurt just thinking about it! THE PAIN!
I'm curious to watch this not for the shock value, but more of what is in the film.
They were still showing this flick in '71 when I was in boot camp. I guess the classics never die....
Say, is there any place where you can download these old training films?

Try the Internet Archive. They have a bunch of films that are public domain. I've not looked through their library, but it would be a good place to start:

"[T]he submarine crew had not been on shore leave recently."
Well, ya know what they say: A submarine leaves port with eighty sailors and comes back with forty couples. (Ah, the great one-liners you learn growing up in San Diego...)
Geh... cauliflower?!...
If you're going to use whiskey to wash down your private parts, how about using something like Kessler's - that'll burn the skin off the ol' shaft.
Guys can douche? I don't even wanna know...
I saw this film at an art-house theater in West L.A. back in the 1970s. The highlight for my girlfriend-of-the-day and me was when the sixtysomething woman sitting in the row in front of us shouted during the short-arm inspection (I assume that's the censored bit), "My God, there's not a Jew aboard this ship!" Both the film and that line are true classics.
I think it's movies like this one: no - specifically this one - that have kept me celibate for the past nine years. :buggedout:

Ha!! I still have a 1969 Cruise book from USS Constellation which features various pictures of everyday life on a carrier, one is the sick call line. More faces are turned away from the camera and others are in obvious burning pain...No, we all have colds......
