Title: The Burning
Post by: George Costanza on December 07, 2006, 03:01:33 PM
Where can I get Jason Alexander's 80's B-movie "The Burning"?  I have heard it is one of the worst movies ever made.

it's actually a pretty solid slasher, you could see the infamous gory raft scene on youtube if you look for it. I got an import copy I bought 2nd hand from someone but I'm sure diabolikdvd.com and ebay have copies.

Far from it. It would not win any awards, but it is definitely entertaining enough. It takes an old campfire tale, about an old caretaker named Cropsy who was burned severly and seeks revenge on campers, and expands upon it. It has plenty of killings, satifactory nudity, and, of course, Jason Alexander. If you pay attention carefully, you'll also see a young Holly Hunter in the movie. She and Jason were ,oddly enough, roommates when they were attending the same acting school (something like that) and both of them ended up getting roles in the film, though Holly is barely on the screen.

The only thing I can suggest is to check eBay, or perhaps a local video store that may have been around for a while. It is not available on DVD as of yet, and what sellers at Amazon are wanting for used copies is highway robbery.

Like the others said, it's far from being a terrible movie.  It's actually pretty damned good.

I ordered it a few months ago from Ebay after hearing about it for years and years.  The DVD was a bootleg of the uncut VHS version but I certainly can't complain.  You should be able to pick it up for about 15-20 bucks and it's well worth it.

MGM has had the rights to The Burning but they've never got around to releasing it and I doubt they will soon,  a real shame, some of the best slasher slashing ever, Tom Savini gore! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=whmtRqhGL0M
