How did I miss the word that this movie was in the works?

Done correctly, the story would make for an entertaining movie. They had better concentrate on some things, because trying to make every fan of the book happy will mean a three hour movie. Stick to the main characters, F'lar and Mnementh, F'nor and Canth, Lessa and Ramoth. If they want one human antagonist (vice just the thread), they will have to pick carefully. Who was the one Holder that F'lar had to fight? Lord Fax or something like that? Heck, maybe they should be planning more than one movie and not even get into the actual thread attacks until the second.
In any case, done wrong, it will be a terrible movie. They are definitely going to have to get the dragon's right.
Well, I am intrigued by this news. I suppose I should get around to reading those books. I've had them for a while but have yet to to get to them.

The books are well worth reading, they are excellent stories and very well written.
That first article ends with a wish for a DRAGONLANCE adaption.
Well, it's coming: DRAGONLANCE: DRAGONS OF AUTUMN TWILIGHT (http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0825245/)
I'm suprised there aren't more fantasy movies in the works considering the huge success of LOTR, Harry Potter, Narnia and Pirates of the Caribbean.
A movie that, done right, will be a fantastic fantasy film. I do like some of the choices for the voice talent. Using Sutherland as Raistlin might well be genuis. However, I am concerned about the companies making the film.
I agree that Sutherland as Raistlin is a coup. I'm hopeful, but we'll see what happens.
What kind of animation is that Dragonlance movie gonna have? Traditional 2D? Computer animation?
According to the Official Site (http://www.dragonlance-movie.com/), it will be a 2D/3D hybrid, using an artwork style similar to that of the Dragonlance comics.
I'm curious which book they're basing it on. I don't think Dragonflight would be the best one to turn into a movie, personally. Maybe they'll combine elements from a couple books?
Regardless, as a major dragon lover, I'll be in line for it.
I have read all of the Dragon Rider books!! I can hardly wait for a movie, or 2 or 3. If the Lord Of the Rings can be made in sequel, so can Dragonriders!!!
I wonder if this film is still happening?? Here's more details on the books: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dragonriders_of_Pern It's been quite a while without any updates. Either way; there is yet another dragon book series being adapted to the screen: "DRAGONOLOGY": http://movies.yahoo.com/mv/news/va/20080613/121334835500.html and: http://www.templarpublishing.co.uk/ologies/dragonology.html
While I'm familiar with the series "Dragonriders of Pern," not having read any of the books, I have no interest in seeing the film. I'm more interested in the "Dragonlance" film, pretty much having read every book in that series, starting with the first one. I just hold they include Fitzban in the film. God, I love that old guy.
They are also making Terry Brooks' "Shannara" series into a film to be out in 2009. But they are not starting with the first book in the series, "Sword of Shannara," even though it has my favorite character in the whole series in it, Menion Leah, but with the second book in the series, "Elfstones of Shannara." The first book, "Sword of Shannara," is thought to be too close to J. R. R. Tolkien's "Lord of the Rings" to be successful at the box office. Thus the first film being the second book in the series, "Elfstones of Shannara."
This is one series I've never read, but I know a few years ago they were within months of starting a tv series based on the books, but the project was dropped for some reason.
