Title: Voodoo Black Exorcist (1973)
Post by: Scott on January 19, 2007, 09:56:46 PM
VOODOO BLACK EXORCIST (1973) (http://imdb.com/title/tt0070893/) - This is a film product of Spain and shot in Haiti, Dominican Republic, Jamacia, and a cruise ship. The film starts out with a stranger on a canoe approaching an Island and falls in love with a woman on a beach. A bald headed guy comes out and tries to kill him, but the bald guy dies instead. Canoe man gets the girl only to be sacrified in a crazy voodoo ritual along with the girl in the next scene. From there the film takes us to modern times on a cruise ship with a mummy in a coffin in the storage area. Guess who in the coffin? The sacrificed guy comes alive and starts killing people on the ship in between some voodoo dancing ship entertainment. He seeks a girl who resembles the girl he loved and he takes her away to a cavern. The are some wacky scenes in this film. It's not very good, but lets just say it's better than THE SNAKE PEOPLE. Crazy stuff and lots of dancing. Its on the Mill Creek Entertainment Drive-In Classics 50 Pack.

 (5 out of 10 Stars) The better side of five because it's an oddity worth taking a peak at.

One more reason why I need to track down that particular 50 movie set.

One more reason for me to get the set off my shelf and watch the films.

I will have to watch this. I find anything involving voodoo interesting.

I posted a discussion about this a few months ago.  It was one of the first movies I watched when I bought this 50 movie pack.  It has its share of silliness, but is definitely worth seeing at least once.

Where have you been Burgomaster?

Yep, this film has enough strangeness to keep you watching. That tarot card reader was a bit annoying.

Personally, I was hooked the minute I saw the white people is "African" black makeup, only to have it start washing off in the fight scene on the beach.  If someone had the gall to remake this...this...mess (God, why do I love this kind of crap so much?!?), it could easily become a direct-to-video series, kinda like they attempted to do with Darkman, but failed miserably.

I can't help but wonder if there isn't a more uncut version that shows more of the person flattened by the streamroller.  Any evidence of this?

By the way, I loved the movie.  It was the first one I watched off the Mill Creek set.  In fact, it was the main reason I bought the thing.

Another oddity to watch for on this set is Going Steady, which is a 50's teen sex comedy set in Israel.
