Title: Kellys Heros. Fun with Mr Warmth.
Post by: Flangepart on February 17, 2002, 03:15:30 PM
Saw the dvd of "Kellys Heros" last night. Like this flick. Great cast, including Don Rickles. "Crapgame" did okey for a comedian. How many Comics do well in acting roles, do ya' think? Heck, he did well in "Innocent Blood" as well as "Casino".....hummm, a connection maby?....anyway, Gotta love this one. Great Tank shootem' ups, Well staged house to house fighting, and comedy relief that don't grate on the nerves...how often does that happen?. Oh, and early Harry Dean Stanton. BTW, Andrew, the rifle rig Kelly's sniper was useing?...not a kraut Mauser, as i assumed....its a Mosin-Nagant M44! A Russian army rig...how they hell did he gets his hands on that?! oh, well. Okey, you hockypucks, get outta here, and don't let me catch ya' doing the nasty with the weedwacker, i'm tired of fielding complaints from the management. So there!

One of my favourite movies. Clint Eastwood, Telly Savalas, Donald Sutherland, Caroll O'Connor - how can you go wrong? Even the Mike Curb Congregation is tolerable.

Lots of great moments, but one of the best scenes has to be Oddball and his Shermans blasting the hell out of a bunch of Nazis, all the while playing "All for the Love of Sunshine" at full volume (sung by Hank Williams Jr., if I'm not mistaken).

Very quotable too, particularly the arguing between Sutherland and Gavin McLeod on the value of positive thinking.

Oddball is still one of my favorite movie characters.

I've got this one on VHS and after repeated watching is getting pretty beat.  Are they any cool features on the DVD?

No, no special features on dvd. Just a good letter boxed (Yea!) print with good sound. Heh..heh....in the DC comic "Hitmen", The "Hero" and some buds go to an African nation to topple a dictator. They use an old Tiger Tank to do it. Naturany, they quoted Oddball. "Always with the negitive waves, Moriarty, always with the negitive waves!". Hey, this is WWII, was hank Williams singing at that time, anyway? Oh well. Oh, and don't forget the Spegetti western parody when they approach the Tiger to "Make a deal." Gotta love it. Same tigers used in "Saveing Pvt. Ryan." Turret too far forward, T-34 Christy style suspension.

"What are you doing?"

"Drinking some wine. Eating some cheese."

"Why aren't you helping him fix this thing?"

"Hey, I just drive 'em. I don't know how they work"

Love it.
