The main reason I bought this movie is that actor Michael Quinlan (who plays Dr. Swann) is a good friend of a guy I work with. I certainly did not buy it because I thought it would be a good movie. And it isn't.
Convicted killer "Shadow" (Tony Todd from CANDYMAN) performs some sort of a black magic ceremony just before he is executed by lethal injection.
Flash forward to 20 years later. The prison where Shadow was executed is now a women's prison where the sleazy Dr. Swann conducts experiments using Shadow's blood (which he saved for 20 years) and trades inmates drugs for sex. The usual women's prison cliches are everywhere (the tough inmate, the pregnant inmate, the lesbian guard, the new arrival who just wants to be left alone, etc.)
To make a long story short, the pregnant woman gives birth to a mutant baby in the prison yard. During the birth, the mother's vaginal blood seeps down into the soil right where Shadow happens to be buried. The blood resurrects him and he and his zombie followers attack the prison. Luckily, the hero (a woman named Solitaire) is a martial arts expert who can easily kick the heads off the zombies. She can also execute some impressive 1970s style flying kicks where she is obviously suspended by wires. She can keep her body parallel to the ground while she leaps about 30 feet across the room and kicks Shadow multiple times without ever touching the ground.
This movie is bad, but it is seldom boring and is great for laughs. The dialogue and acting are mediocre to poor and every time there is a fight scene, you can easily see the stunt doubles. If you're a big Tony Todd fan you might want to see it . . . but I estimate that he's only on screen for a total 15 - 20 minutes at most.
