Title: Any sugestions?
Post by: KYGOTC on February 05, 2007, 11:35:27 PM
Im going up to gamestop sometime this week to get a movie. Theres at least 3 up there that look alright, but id like a second, third, and quite possibly a forth opinion on which one i should pick up.

*CRITTERS

*CYBORG 2
(what ever happened to cyborg 1?)

*MAN THING (this one has some sorta advantage coz it's based on a marvel comic, and i do love me sum marvel comicz!)

*NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD

Any sugestions? Of course, even if one paticular title does bring in a lot of "yea! get that one!"s, if i go to buy it and its not widescreen, it might as well be one of the star wars"special" editions. I mean really, Lucas, Greedo shooting? Han talking to an obviously CGI Jabba in a new hope? ok. im starting to go off topic here.

What, how do you manage to have no copies of "Night of The Living Dead"?
In my experience, they sort of accumulate, like Beatles albumns . . .
Seriously, I have 4 copies of "Night of The Living Dead" -- 3 on anthology DVDs and one solo tape -- and I'm not even that big a fan of the film --
* * *
That aside, I'd go ahead and get "Critters" -- It's a good old-fashioned-style horror romp with "things from Outer Space!!" that look like tubleweeds & eat people.  The production values are high, and you get some nudge-nudge references to other older horror/sf films, particularly "Invaders From Mars".
Laughs, some suspense, cool critters, and good camera-work.  Go fer it!

Cyborg 2 has nothing to do with the first Cyborg except a 15 second flashback shown on a monitor.  Not that impressive except for being an early Angelina Jolie movie and Jack Palace.

Don't forget an early Angelina Jolie film with partial nudity [from what I remember] and a poetry quoting Jack Palance.  As a movie it's nothing fancy, but it's fun.

Get Critters.
That's one of my favorite sci-fi movies from the 80's.

Critters or NOTLD. Guaranteed excellent b-movie viewing.

I actually don't own a copy of NOTLD either, don't know how I didn't wind up with one in a multi-pack at some point. I never planned to pick one up, because until a few years ago, I could catch it on TV so often I never felt the need to own a copy.

I still haven't seen Cyborg 2, an oversight on my part. Jack Palance made almost anything worth a look, and Angelina Jolie skin - what am I thinking by not springing for a rental way back when or getting it from the  dump bin.

Definatly get Critters, in fact find and buy all the Critters movies beacuase there all pretty good. Never seen Cyborg 1 or 2 but from the responses already given skip it. Man Thing is another Sci-Fi channel movie and is pretty bad I say avoid that one. NOTLD IS AN ABSOLUTE MUST HAVE. ALL HORROR MOVIE FANS SHOULD A COPY OF THIS MOVIE!

Critters is a fun movie, definitely worth a look.  Cyborg 2, well, I never made it to the nudity part because I turned it off after about 20 minutes.  It made absolutely no sense and was plain terrible.  Man thing is pretty bad, Sci-Fi Channel original.  Might appeal to people who enjoy listening to a bunch of environmentalists complaining about how terrible everything is for 90 straight minutes.  I turned it off after 20 minutes.  NOTLD is worth a look, if for no other reason than it's considered such a classic.  It's basically an okay movie, something I watched once and aren't really too interested in seeing again.

See, I actually like "Cyborg 2." You have Angelina Jolie throwing guns at guards and knocking them over (causing them to shoot the other guards).  There is also a liquid explosive injected into female cyborgs that makes them explode during sex.  However, the best part has to be Jack Palance as the poetry-speaking cyborg.  "If you are going to dine with the devil - you'll need a long spoon!"

I recommend the MILLENIUM EDITION of NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD.
