Title: SYNGENOR - or Thanks a Lot, Andrew
Post by: ulthar on February 13, 2007, 12:57:40 PM
Andrew's review of SYNGENOR (http://www.badmovies.org/movies/syngenor/index.html) drew me like a moth to a flame.  Any time he rates a movie with one slime, it is almost a compulsion that burbles up from within - "I've GOT to see this movie."  There's a sense of "oh, I'm a b-movie fan, so I will find SOMETHING to enjoy about it...."

SYNGENOR is just plain Bad.  Oh, I DID find something to laugh at, now and again - mostly the raw stupidity of the plot and the, uh, laughable acting.  Every time David Gale did his on-screen, let's see, antics is a good fit here, I had flashes to the more enjoyable breathless "WEEEESSSSTTT" utterings from RE-ANIMATOR.

The sad thing is that with a very little effort to fill some of those plot chasms, SYNGENOR could have been a downright fun B-Flick: good premise, extremely POOR execution.  Watch it once but don't expect much.

(Go ahead, Andrew, have a good chuckle, you got me....)

But...I wasn't trying to get you.  I even rated the movie a single slime!  This is like me saying, "Don't go in that yard.  They have a Rottweiler and it will bite the heck out of you."  You then proceed to climb over the fence, because you have been bitten by some pretty big dogs in your time and cannot imagine that a Rottweiler will be all that bad.

Seriously, folks - the skulls and single slimes are there for a reason.  By all means watch a few of them, but some will feel like a Rottweiler is chewing on your buttocks.

But to some of us, in moments reminiscent of our adolescence, go in the yard just BECAUSE you said don't.  It's an illness, really.

Besides, I got off better than hoped with THE CORPSE GRINDERS a couple of weeks ago, so I rolled the dice again.

As I've said:
I watch it.
I own it.
I lend it out to people.
I really don't get some of the fascination on this board with other stuff I wouldn't care about, but the overacting of the villian in this one, along with the ridiculous monster(s) and badly done "patriotic" themes, and other stuff, just makes this a fun one for me -- We all laugh at different things, no?

Some friends of mine and myself do bad movie night at least once a month.

I have to admit that we're also drawn to movies on this site that only get 1 slime or a skull rating.

And we end up paying for it royally in most cases.

The most recent one we checked out that got 1 slime was Blood Freak.   GOBBLE GOBBLE!

Oh yeah, we've also checked out Syngenor not too long ago which was really, really tough to make it through the entire thing.   :tongueout:

Well, the interesting thing about bad movies (and movies in general) is that some people will love a certain movie, while others will find it painful.  Radioactive Dreams (http://www.badmovies.org/movies/radiodreams/) is one quirky film that I love, but I have noticed many others do not have the same "appreciation."

Likewise, I spent a week or two trying to decide if Hard Rock Zombies (http://www.badmovies.org/movies/hrockzombies/) should be a single slime or four.

I like SYGENOR.  I will admit that the reporter needed to be pistol whipped a couple of times.  The bad corporation guy was also in Re-Aminator too.

This is a movie that will make it to my video collection.

I've tried to watch it, but my DVD player won't accept it. Perhaps it is rebelling against the kind of films I put in it.

My has done that a couple of times.  I just threaten it and sometimes bribe it.

Then it usually works.

JPickett: Just what do you "bribe" a dvd player with?  (the answer isn't as easy as "porn", is it?)
