Title: GRINDHOUSE (2007)
Post by: The Burgomaster on February 24, 2007, 08:24:21 PM
I went to see GHOST RIDER today and before the movie they showed the trailer for GRINDHOUSE . . . and boy does that look like a fun movie.

It's a tribute to the explotation movies that used to play at the old "grindhouse" movie theaters.  There are 2 separate films within this movie:

* PLANET TERROR (directed by Robert Rodriguez) which features (among other things) a woman with only one leg who attaches an assault rifle to the stump of her amputated leg and starts blowing people away.

* DEATH PROOF (directed by Quentin Tarantino) starring Kurt Russell, looking like a cross between Snake Plisskin and Elvis Presley.

The trailer has a great scratchy, cheesy, 1970s drive-in movie look to it.  I can't wait for this one.

Yeah, it looks great.  Incidentally, it's apparently being split into two movies in Europe.  However, the Europe theatrical releases aren't missing a reel (there's literally about a 10 minute chunk of each film missing in each film in the US version).

I still think the US version is definetly the one to see, but it is fairly interesting.

Oh yeah, and there are several fake trailers inbetween the two films.  Machette is the one with Danny Trejo on the motorcycle you see in the new trailer.  The older trailer which had almost no Death Proof footage showed some of it.

:bouncegiggle: PLANET TERROR! That description make me wonder...why is Roger Corman NOT involved?
Snake Presley...cast Kurt Russel and there ya go!

Can't wait.

I hope that it ends up being 3 hours total as planned.

Am I the only one that thinks that Rose McGowan looks incredibly hot with the machine gun leg?   :tongueout:

When describing this movie to my roommate, all I said was, "Two words: gun leg!" and he was completely sold.  Of course, he was even more so once I showed him the trailer on Youtube.

So I take it that GhostRider was completely overshadowed by the trailer?

I haven't seen either trailers yet, but have seen screen shots.  I actually intend to keep it that way for as long as humanely possible.  Well, until they pop up before another movie I watch I suppose.

This looks great, but it also looks like the type of film I would prefer to be completely surprised by [that is, no reading the threads when it comes out in the states, since we'll be a bit behind you guys].

I just want to go in with zero thoughts on what is going on, and just immerse myself without the clutter of thinking 'oh I can't wait for that scene where the guy kills that other thing' etc etc.

To answer a couple of questions:

1.  My understanding is that the movie runs about 2 1/2 hours (I think they mention this in the trailer) - about 75 minutes per movie.

2.  Yes, the GRINDHOUSE trailer completely overshadowed GHOST RIDER.  I thought GHOST RIDER was an average comic book movie, but nothing spectacular.

Grindhouse is THE movie of 2007 for me.

Even over Spiderman 3!

I really think that Quentin and Robert are going to hit gold with this one.

Outside of the likes of Laberinto del Fauno, The Host or 300, this is probably the film I 've most wanted to see this year. And yes, there is something oddly titillating about a gun coming out of Rose McGowan's leg.

For what it is worth, don't get your hopes up too much for the Host.  It's OK, but I was very disappointed.

Oh, damn. Well I still want to see it, but may wait 'til the DVD.

Has their been a final run time released for Grind House yet?  I've heard the 2 films equal out to 2 1/2 hours paired up and I think that the trailers will be about an extra 20 minutes.

Has it managed to get a R rating without any or very minimal cuts?

Surely to God Rodriguez and Tarantino will do that, especially with alternative versions being released and those guys knowing we'll want every bit of the Grind on our plates.

They both got extremely good track records with the MPAA so maybe it'll get through uncut.

No, she actually walks on the gun-leg.
