Title: The Embalmer (1965)

THE EMBALMER (1965) (http://imdb.com/title/tt0060716/) - Italian Horror/Mystery about an eccentric black robed guy who embalms the young women tourist of Venice. He takes them to the catacombs and entombs them there and preserves their beauty with a special embalming formula. The films starts out with a tour of Venice and some of the nightclubs so the first hour is rather boring, but the last 30 minutes are worth a good look. In the first hour they also show the murderer in scuba gear dragging the young women into the waters of Venice and then he wears his hooded black robe while he embalms them, but they only show him from the back until the last 20 minutes.

One thing I was wondering the whole film (because I had nothing else to think about) was how can Venice have below surface catacombs? Guess they have a way to hold back the waters with pumps or something. This film does what many films tragically do is they have some reporter or detective trying to solve the case which always drags a film down for me. The whole scuba thing also didn't work for me. The dubbing out stripped any atmosphere the film might of had. The dubbing left no room for surrounding scene noise. Even the guitarist on stage was dubbed in Italian instead of English I believe. Why? The tour of Venice could have been handled better also.

(5 out of 10 Stars)   You'll like when the killer turns around to reveal his mask and the b/w images of walking through the catacombs.
