Title: Doc Hookers Bunch (1976)
Post by: Scott on March 05, 2007, 11:42:14 PM
DOC HOOKERS BUNCH (1976) (http://imdb.com/title/tt0221916/) - This is a total waste of a Western. Some kind of rookie con man teams up with 3 women to sell snake oil while traveling North on the cattle trails from Texas heading North on Doc's red healing medicine wagon. Just a poorly made film that you shouldn't waste your time with. Just thought I'd give all you Western fans a heads up on this one before you go and buy it somewhere. Occasionally some good scenery, but the poor transfer and the whole film that is in the foreground makes even this nothing to bother with. 70's Westerns are never this bad. At least they had this professional poster made for the film. Veteran film actor Dub Taylor stars as Doc Hooker and you will even see Oakland Raiders NFL star Otis Sistrunk with a small role in this film.

(2 out of 10 Stars)   Stay away ! ! !

I've seen this beaut myself.  My friend had it on tape from tv, which meant that the best parts were the vintage commercials(Ritz Thrift Shop, that day camp with the talking balloon!)

Part of my problem with the film is that, thanks to my penchant for sleaze, I kept expecting(and hoping) for it to degenrate into TOBACCO ROODY territory.  Something it steadfastly refused to do.

It's interesting(that's the polite way of saying...f'ng typical!)to see the marketing strategy of this dvd release as opposed to the original one-sheet.

Trying to sell it a la ONCE UPON A TIME IN THE WEST is just a little disingenuous.

Not to mention Dub Taylor always struck me as a kind of downhome Mr. Mxyzptlk.
