Title: New DVD Purchases
Post by: Shadow on March 07, 2007, 12:23:30 AM
Arriving today at old Shadow Manor:

Captain Kronos Vampire Hunter - Caught this on TV a couple times years and years ago. Looking forward to seeing it again.
Deepstar Six - I saw this in the theater and then again on HBO about a zillion times. It's got a monster, so I like it.
Leviathan - I also saw this in the theater when it came out and again on HBO. Monster = good.
Gymkata - Saw this on HBO a time or two about 20 years ago. Have not seen it since. I can hardly wait.
Frankenstein and the Monster From Hell - The only Hammer Frankie film I have not seen.
April Fool's Day - Pseudo slasher I saw a million times on HBO back in the 80's but haven't seen since.
Giant Majin Collection - I already have the set with the widescreen Japanese versions, but wanted this two-movie set with the dubbed versions used for American TV.
Videodrome - Another film I saw on HBO back in the 80's and have not seen since. After a recent thread discussing this one, I knew I had to get it.

Bought CAPTAIN KRONOS VAMPIRE HUNTER a few years ago. What I remember most is the heroic music.

APRIL FOOLS DAY and VIDEODROME are also films I haven't seen since they came out. Forgotten most of what happens, so I'd watch them again if I had the chance.

Bought Captain Kronos and April Fool's Day out of the dump bin at Wally World a few years apart. I like the first one a lot, was mcurious about the other one since I only ever saw part of it. Ehh.

Of the two undersea flicks, I like Leviathan better. Creepier mood and better efects to me.

Gymkata used to air on TNT all the time. I see why people have latched onto it, but I'm not a fan.

Though a lot of purists don't like FRANKENSTIEN and the MONSTER from HELL,saying it's the worst in the series,I think it's pretty dam cool!I really like the sight of the monster languishing in his cell, with no EYES! YEEECH! AH!
David Prowse, who plays the Monster, also appeared as the monster in HORROR of FRANKENSTIEN(1970),and even earlier as a bit as Frankenstien in CASINO ROYAL(1967).He was also the big musclehead in CLOCKWORK ORANGE,the Strongman in VAMPIRE CIRCUS,Chris Reeves 's  physical trainer in SUPERMAN,and appeared in episodes of Dr.Who,Space1999,and Benny Hill Show(Love that show!). And of course,as Darth Vader!
