Title: I picked up Night of the Comet on DVD today.
Post by: Torgo on March 08, 2007, 09:10:15 PM
While I am happy to finally have this cult classic on DVD, I could have sworn at one point that there was going to be a director's commentary track on it and some deleted scenes at one point.

Anyone know why MGM just went the bare bones route with this one?

Considering their usually stellar track record with some other special edition DVD releases like Return of the Living Dead and Killer Klowns from Outer Space, I figured that Night of the comet would warrant something in the ways of extras.

Hell, MGM got Paul Verhooven to record a commentary track for Flesh & Blood and that was the only extra on it, but what a cool extra.

Anyway, if you haven't seen this film, check it out.  It's always been a personal favorite of mine in the B movie world.

Funny you mention this.  I put the kids to bed a little bit ago and just finished ordering "Night of the Comet" and "Solarbabies."

I actually put in an order for The Manitou, Solarbabies, Night Of The Comet and the new release of Peter Pan on Amazon yesterday.

I've yet to see Solarbabies.  Manitou was one I saw a long time ago, and Night Of The Comet is one of my favorites from the 80s.  Can't wait to finally have it on DVD.

Andrew, is there somewhere on the page where I can access Amazon and kick you back some credit?  I know you've posted the link in the past, but I can't seem to find it.

The picture quality is quite excellent considering the age of the film.  Anamorphic widescreen at 1.85:1.

The DVD has both the original mono audio track in addition to a stereo track.

Just stick with the mono track as the stereo track sounds like crap.  There were only a couple of instances on the mono track in which the dialogue and sound effects kind of got muddled together, but overall, I greatly preferred mono one.

OH KICKASS. God, so long have I been waiting for this -- can't even complain about the bare bones treatment =D
