Title: Death of a comic Master
Post by: WyreWizard on March 19, 2007, 10:42:51 AM
I just learned last week that one of my favorite stand up comic, Richard Jeni died from a self-inflicted gunshot.  I've enjoyed his routines for his entire career.  He had at least one fan, me.  But I guess that wasn't enough for him.  Goodbye, Richard Jeni.  You'll be missed.

Yeah, he was hilarious. One of the few stand up comics that made me laugh out loud almost all of the time.

I didn't know he was having that tough of a time with his life.

Suicide is not the answer folks!

My fave bit of his was the pitch he did for the A&E channel: "A&E. It's time...well...spent."

I don't usually reply to/read/respond to your posts, Mr. Wizard, but I did do a lot of Standup Comedy in the late 80's/early 90's.
While I never worked with Mr. Jeni personally, I do know a lot of comics who did (Matt Woods, Todd Jordan, Edith Weiss, etc.), and they all had nice things to say about him.
Yes, this is always a deeply tragic thing, when someone believes that the world is either better off without them, or that they can no longer endure the pain or dishonuor the world can bring.
    How very sad.
