It's been a good while since I've posted my opinion on movies. These three came from Netflix. It is a good thing that I denied myself.
Rapid: So far I'm liking this, I'm about an hour in. Pretty creepy scenario. I like it but not that fair to give a final rating without finishing it.
MST3K: I accuse my parents. Much funnier now than when I was saw it as a kid. I understood a lot more jokes. I feel really sorry for all the troops serving over seas that had to see the original movie. As always quite the riot with Joe/Mike and the bots.
*spoilers to this last one*
Richard Donner Superman II. Now this I've been waiting for a good while. I was not disappointed. Overall I feel it is a superior film to the Lester version. Yeah I know this is still a flawed movie but not so much. Sure a few things don't make sense but this was Donner doing what he wanted to do (that's why we got the whole 'Time Spin Back' thing again) The relationship between Superman and his father made it all the more epic. And I prefer Non being less of a comic relief, more menacing.
I do miss from the Lester version:
"General, would you care to step outside?"
"Good morning Mr.President,I'm sorry I was away. I won't let you down again."
And that brief battle at the Fortress. For the record the only weird thing that happened in the Lester cut were the blue laser hands (my opinion).Every other trick I found a way to weasel out of.
I don't mind the 'amensia kiss' so much. I do like the reverse time trick, nefty. But in the Lester cut couldn't Superman have had a tool that made Lois forget? I would have swallowed that better.
And I know Superman doesn't bully guys but damn it, Rocky needed to be taught some manners!
On Donner's SUPERMAN II, I agree, it was far superior to what was released by Warner Brother's after the whole Donner debacle.
Man, I'm a thirty*COUGH COUGH* year old man and I still get misty in the scenes between Kal-El and his father. Reeve really did sell it, that sonofagun!
Ok, that's it. The Donner cut just got bumped to the very top of my Netflix queue.
The only problem I had with the Donner cut is he turned back time to the start of the film but that's it, there was no explanation, unless I missed something, of how he prevented everything from happening. Also he beat the crap out of that guy in the diner at the end for no reason.
