Alright so this is a really random topic but today at work my boss proposed his theory that we just keep repeating every 30 years of decades. Thus he argues that right now we're living in the new 70's and pretty soon we'll be back to the 80's as soon as it's 2010.
At first I was totally against this but then he argued:
1) The strokes came out in the early 2000's as did other bands going for a 70's classic rock sound
2) The clothes have a 70's influence
3) The concept that there's only really 2 big selling genre's of music (classic rock - disco in the 70's) (rap and emo - 2000's)
he had other ideas but I forget them all... how do you feel about this theory?

.An actor as govener of California-Arnold=an actor as Governer of California-Ronald (even the letters of they're first names are the same!!!)
.Iranian hostage crisis=Iranian hostage crisis
.KING KONG remake=KING KONG remake(1976)
.SNAKES on a PLANE=the AIRPORT movies
.High gas prices=the Energy Crisis
.Jim Jones and Guyana=Heavens Gate
.SUPERMAN,the HILLS HAVE EYES,the TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE,HALLOWEEN,etc...ad nausem...
.this could go on forever...
The fact is almost every decade has parralells in every other,in some way or another.Nothing new is under the sun...it's all the same...but different. :smile:
I wish we could have the "real" 1970s back. Drive-ins, imported European sex/horror movies, the blaxploitation and martial arts crazes, and great comic book characters and story lines (I have a tough time with today's comics - - so I keep buying 1960s, 70s, and 80s back-issues on Ebay and at comic stores). Let's just NOT go back to platform shoes and polyester shirts with gigantic collars!
I agree! They had some great comics back then!Some favorites...
Jack Kirbys MACHINE MAN,DEVIL DINOSAUR, CAPTAIN AMERICA and the FALCON were all favorites.
Also liked the GODZILLA series,the HULK,the INVADERS (Cap,Bucky,the Human Torch,Submariener,and Union Jack),NOVA(Gil Kane art!),Warren Pub. reprints of Eisner's the SPIRIT (which Iv'e been slowly collecting on ebay)DC's OMEGA,the ONE MAN ARMY(Kirby again!),Marvels mag-size comics like DRACULA LIVES,the SAVAGE SWORD of CONAN,ZOMBIE TALES,and all the Warren titles-EERIE,VAMPIRELLA,and the great CREEPY and their teams of great artists like Rich Cobern,Bernie Wrightson,Alex Nino,Russ Heath,John Severin,those great Frazetta covers and,of course,not comics,but the wonderful Monster movie mags like FAMOUS MONSTERS(NOT Ray Ferry!),CASTLE of FRANKENSTIEN,the MONSTER TIMES,Marvels MONSTERS of the MOVIES (the all HORROR of DRACULA ish was beautiful!) which I've very slowly rebuying off ebay and other sources.I try to buy at least one mag every two weeks...kinda like a reward to myself each month I stay sober.So far I got about 50 or so mags collected.
other things I miss about the 70's...
Original music...not old hippy junk,or crap like STYX and BOSTON...I mean BLACK SABBATH,the RAMONES,the SEX PISTOLS,LED ZEP,PINK FLYOD, the CRAMPS,CAPTAIN BEEFHART,ALICE COOPER, the STOOGES,MC5,the PRETENDERS,PARLIMENT,BLUE OYSTER CULT,GOLDEN EARRING so many....
Ah, the Ramones! I saw them live 3 times and every show was insane. Too bad Joey and Dee Dee are pushing up daisies.
