This is an odd gangster spoof that is set up like a comic book (comic book artwork and word boxes are inserted between the scene transitions to let you know what is happening).  Overall, it doesn't really work as either a gangster film or a comedy, but it's a harmless hour-and-a-half.  Here are two reasons you might want to watch this:

* JACK PALANCE's performance.  He seemed to have fun with the mob-boss role and uses a great tough-guy voice throughout the film.

* The supporting cast.  You will have fun spotting: Warren Berlinger, Gianni Russo (Carlo from THE GODFATHER), Martin Kove, Carol Lynley, Adam Roarke (not in a hippy biker film for a change), and even Carl (Apollo Creed) Weathers as a taxi driver.

This Golan/Globus production was released about a year after LEPKE, and I suspect they used some of the same costumes, sets, and props to save money.  In addition, Warren Berlinger and Gianni Russo were in both movies.

This movie is included in Mill Creek's HOLLYWOOD LEGENDS 50 MOVIE PACK.  I suspect that some profanity was edited out of this print (during several scenes, a few frames of film seem to be missing and the movie jumps forward.  Oddly enough, the violence (shootings, stabbings, bombings, beatings) appears to be intact.  Not sure why they would cut the swearing and not cut the violence.

I LLLLOOOOVVVEEEE lobby cards!  The decided lack of which constitutes reason #349 of why contemporary movie theatres stink!

Those are beauts.

How's the print on that, by the way?  I'm assuming(judging from the cut you mention) it maybe taken from a broadcast print.  ...Amazon mentions Lee Marvin's THE KLANSMAN is in that set too...any thoughts on that print?

I've got this set so I'll definitely have to check this out.

Slightly OT but Jack Palance related: A few months ago I saw a very old rerun of The Porter Wagoner Show and the special musical guest was Jack Palance! He wore a bright orange leisure suit and "sang" (more like growled) an unforgettable version of The Green Green Grass of Home and some very weird song about being on a chain gang and choking the guard to death with his chains!

A couple of days later I saw on the news Palance had died.

SOYLENT GREEN - The print of FOUR DEUCES is decent . . . about VHS quality.  Very watchable.

Based on reviews I have read for THE KLANSMAN, the print in the MIll Creek collection seems to be cut.  I have read about various shocking scenes that are definitely not in the Mill Creek version.  Again, it does contain violence (probably more than you would see in a TV print), but not the type of graphic violence that I have read about.  The picture and sound quality are about the same as FOUR DEUCES.

THE FOUR DUECES (1976) (http://imdb.com/title/tt0073011/) - Burgomaster, it was interesting seeing Jack Palance in a lead role, but this one was a dud despite the decent sets, cars, and costumes. There are indeed some brutal killings in this film. There are scenes that are seperated by comic strip framed beginnings. The fast forward gun battle at the end didn't help.

(4 out of 10 Stars)  The print is decent. Worth a look for gansgter movie buffs and Jack Palance fans only. All others stay away.
