With the conversation going on the Phantasm franchise, it made me wonder: who would you declare as the baddest asskicker in horror film franchises, or who is your favorite?
Reggie from Phastasm?
Ash from Evil Dead?
Ripley from Alien?
Who would you nominate?
Phantasm is one that ive been meaning to see, so as of now, Ash, but that one guy from PLANET TERROR is a close runner up.

Tom Savini?
Ash is the best hero ever because he kinda sucks at being a hero

Well, till he gains experiance. What do you think his experiance point spread is? Oooo...Ash Vs. Cuethlu
Definitely Ripley.
She faced down hordes of nasty aliens almost all by herself.
Not to mention the psychological torment they put her through over the years.
Ripley is simply a bad ass and really doesn't belong in the same league as Ash and Reggie. Those two are just two guys, taken out of their cozy little jobs (S-Mart Clerk and Ice Cream Man respectively) and thrust into insane supernatural situations. So between those two, I'd go with Ash as he definitely kicks more ass. (Sorry Reg.) But who would I nominate? Hmm.... after seeing Grindhouse tonight, I have to say that Rose McGowan ranks high on my list. Not many girls can pull off the "Machine-gun leg" look. :teddyr:
Ripley, the other guys are good, but they're not even close to her.

Lionel from Dead Alive and Derek Bad Taste
Tom Savini's Sex Machine from From Dusk Till Dawn isn't the baddest but should be up there...
We all know Ash would talk a drunken Reg into hitting on Ripley...
I'd say Ash but if he and Ripley were to ever do battle it'd be really close.
As stated, Reg isn't a bad-ass so much as an "everyman" who knows just enough to keep him from getting killed. Additionally, Reggie Banister himself is a total jerk-off and shouldn't be allowed to make public appearances.
Ash started off the same way as Reggie did, but by the time Army of Darkness came around, the man had fully evolved/devolved into a one-liner spewing, womanizing, jaw jacking, sucker punching action hero. Not necessarily "bad-ass" as much as "macho dickhead".
Ripley is by far the baddest ass of the three. She also started out as a "wrong person in the wrong place" character like the other two, but by the time Aliens hit, she had fully changed over to bad-ass mode. No cutesy smirks, no smarmy ego, no one-liners, pure and simple "don't eff with me or you will die in flames and boo-boos" mode.
My nominations for total bad-asses? Det. Cameron from Night of the Creeps, Wray and Cherry from Planet Terror, Herbert West from the Re-Animator movies (in pure "I do whatever I f***ing wanna do and don't give a sh!t what you say" attitude), Payton Westlake from Darkman, Sex Machine and the Geckos from From Dusk Till Dawn, Machete, Father McGruder from Dead Alive, Riki-Oh from Story of Ricky, and Sean Connery James Bond.

no i figured it out. His name is "El Wray".
Reggie is my fave of the bunch, I've always dreamed of seeing him and Nick Castle from The Fog join up and take on some walking alien dead (with some help from Adrienne Barbeau, for sure).
dude, although totally over enthused(sometimes by people who have never seen the damn movies only bruce campbell saying "groovy"), ash wins no contest i like reggie but ash wins.

"Let her go, you b***h" is not a one-liner? I agree Ripley has less one liners per capita but she is not totally devoid of them.

You consider that a one-liner? I never looked at "Let her go, you b***h" as one-liner material. When I think one-liner, I think stuff like "Hail to the king, baby" or the chick at the end of Hellraiser saying "Go to Hell". You know, something that's supposed to be ironic or topically punny to that moment of the movie.I mean, granted, the Alien Queen isn't a female dog, so the entire quote isn't literal, but I'm not convinced that counts as a one-liner.
Look at the whole set-up that scene. It's classic one-liner stuff. She's back-lit with all kind of strobe lights. The swooping camera closeup. The typical beasty roar in response from the queen Alien. It's akin to "Hasta la vista" in T2.

She doesn't really have one liners (that's the closest to be one) because Aliens is scripted very well as an action drama. It actually attempts to be realistic for the most part. Terminator and Terminator 2 are mostly the same way, though Arnie does get a few.
And man, I've only seen the first two Phantasms at this point (I thought the second one was boring, so I didn't watch the third), but I don't really see the appeal of Reggie. He seemed fairly useless most of the time.
