Whats the best gaming console out there for you guys/gals(keep in mind the old systems like the atari stil count)?
for me it's the ps2. it beats the next gen consoles in price and still has a lot of good games for it.
Dreamcast, hands down
Great gameplay, great freakin controller and it was easy to pirate the games.
The DC is a quality machine as mentioned above and you should be able to pick one up pretty cheap, I've picked up a Wii and a 360 recently, both have their plus points but I've been on the 360 a hell of a lot more than the Wii.
still quite partial to the Sega Genesis although wasted the most time of my life on PS2 games. NES has a great nostolgia to it's games. Almost like a comfort food.
The two systems I have gotten the most fun out of are the SNES and the PS2. I have enjoyed my Xbox quite a bit, but in recent years my game playing has diminished.
My 2 favorite systems are (and will always be) the Sega Genesis and SNES.
I'm also a big fan of the PS2 mainly since I can play both my huge collection of PS1 games on it as well.
I have no plans on making the jump to a next gen system until the prices come down (not interested in the Wii).
Though I want to say NES or SNES, I'd have to go with the NeoGeo. What can I say, I have a weakness for side-scrolling shooters and beat 'em ups. And Crossed Swords was a friggin' masterpiece and should definitely be remade for Wii. At least for the time being I can look forward to the similarly themed Dragon Quest title due out this year.
Speaking of which, Wii is fast becoming my new champion. I've never purchased so many games for a system within the first few months of a console's release date as I have with the Wii. Rayman, Wii Play, Elebits, Zelda, Super Paper Mario, Monkey Ball... and plans to pick up Godfather and WarioWare in the coming weeks... If I didn't already have the better games on cartridge or emulator, I'd be all over the Virtual Console too...
Gotta go with the PS2. The fact that it only costs a small fraction of the next gen stuff has to be taken into consideration. And the sheer volume of great games. I just bought myself a new slimline version, even though I could have had the kids' Wii which they abandoned two weeks after Christmas :hatred: (the wife always gives me a hard time when I steal the kids' toys).
The biggest problem that I've had with game systems since the PS1 is that while the graphics are getting much better, the games themselves aren't really improving that much.
I'm still waiting for that next system that truly revolutionizes the gaming world.

I'm sorry my friend your going to have to wait a long while.
The closet thing to something that revolutionizes gameplay right now is the Wii.As you undoubtedly know it has intuitive controls.

That's more of a gimmick to me than anything else.
i think the wii looks like fun. my nephew has been trying to get one for months now but he says that targets always sold out of them. is it really so popular? im good with the used systems i bought off a co-worker to keep me busy these days. the gamecube has some fun titles and the xbox is good too. im not quite big with the ds yet but im glad they released some of my old nintendo favorites like Metroid and Super Mario Brothers 2 for it! right now id say the xbox is my favorite of the three. i look forward to starting Morrowind this weekend too.
I'd have to say my all time favorite system was the original NES.

I was the first kid to have one in my neighborhood and I remember all of my friends coming over to play Super Mario Bros., Castlevania, Duck Hunt and especially...

I used to be heavy into the PS1 but never got into the PS2.
When the PS2 came out, I was too into pc gaming to be bothered with it.
Nowadays I mostly play on my Xbox 360.
When I bought it, I had never played on one before...but now that I have, all I can say is AWESOME!
The graphics and gameplay are some of the best I've ever experienced.
Still haven't played a Wii yet, though I want to.
The best times all around for me are the countless hours that I spent hanging out at the TILT or Aladdin's Castle arcades in the late 80's-early 90's..

It's too bad that they've faded away over the years.
I own a Wii, PS2 and SNES. Used to have a PS1 but that was stolen [which meant I was able to upgrade to PS2 with the insurance! Woot!]
Out of alll of them, the SNES is the emotional favourite, based on the fun times my brother and I had on it, but I've enjoyed them all.
On the Wii, it's lots of fun. I haven't got a 'proper' game on it yet, so we'll see how it goes, but for now I have NFL, Smooth Moves and of course the Sports. All are fun, especially the two latter ones which make great party games.
I've found that it's great for normal people who 'look down' on video games and I've converted quite a few people to the "This is FUN" category.
Especially when in Smooth Moves you're waving the remote around like a drunken idiot! Lotsa fun for all!

For me it was the R-Cade in Poway Ca. Countless hours in 1982 - 83 hanging out with friends, stepping out back for a little smoke, getting ten tokens for a dollar. The Yellow Brick Road in La Jolla was great too.

Yeah, you're telling me. If anyone knows of an Aladdin's Castle or other Namco based arcade in the vacinity of Brookly, please let know, as I still have a camera film canister full of tokens from back when the Oakdale Mall in Binghamton, NY lost their Aladdin's... :bluesad:

There was a fantasy RPG on that system that I remember playing to death. I cannot recall the name of it now, but I spent hours and hours and hours on it...mostly because a friend had trouble with it and claimed it was impossible to beat it, and I bet him I could finish it within a week. I won.

A little research and I found the game in question: Miracle Warriors (http://freespace.virgin.net/james.groom/MWarr/Mwarr.htm)
I adored my Atari growing up. In fact I still tend to prefer those old games to this day although my main choice now is PS2 (for which I have a few of those Atari collections).

I never could beat that game either.
I also had a tough time finding the last door in the final dungeon in Phantasy Star.
