I first saw this thing mentioned on here a while back:

It's nearly my birthday, so I figured I'd do a little bit of something for myself. I went ahead and bought this set from Ebay. I have a set-top Divx player that is all region, so it should play fine. I'm now asking the question I should have asked before buying it:
Is this thing worth the money? Is the sphere as awesome as it looks? Does it have a stand or anything?
To my knowledge, this is the only way I'll ever get to see Phantasm 2 on DVD so that was a big selling point for me.
I'm hoping someone here has this set and might be able to shine some light on it.....
I like the 1st 2 films but think that 3 and 4 aren't that great, but considering you're getting all of the films (hopefully for a good price), it's a pretty good deal.
The second film was my least favorite, but one that I would still love to see on DVD.
3 and 4 are my favorites. I loved 3 for how insanely over the top most of it was, and 4 because of how mature it felt compared to the rest of the films.
The only one that's not availalbe on Region 1 DVD at this point is part 2. Universal still retains the US rights to that one.
Anchor Bay just released parts 1 and 3 in addition to MGM already having a DVD of part 4 out since 1998 (along with an out of print DVD of part 1.)

Yeah, Anchor Bay released them under their new Anchor Bay collection. I believe that the versions of 1 and 3 in the sphere set are about the same as the AB Collection discs that were recently released.
I think that the copy of Oblivion in the set also has more features than the original version that was released which was pretty barebones.
But, of course, I could be wrong. I'll have to find out when the set arrives.
The MGM DVD of Part 4 is bare bones, though it is anamorphic widescreen at the very least.
The one you've got as part of the set has a commentary track on it.
I heard alot of good things about these movies on this forum, but it didnt really grab my intrest until I saw the trailer for the first one on my RE-ANIMATOR dvd. Now Id at least like to get the first and second ones. I hear the 4th sorks.

The sphere is indeed as awesome as it looks. It's a little large compared to the ones in the actual movies, but it has to be to acommodate the discs. It does come with a small stand made of clear plastic so you can display it, so make some room on your entertainment center, bookshelf or computer desk, because it's not just a DVD collection: it's bad movie art!
