This is a Charles Bronson movie that I had heard about and seen on the shelves of video stores years ago but had never watched until today.  It is included in Mill Creek's ACTION CLASSICS 50 MOVIE PACK.  I can't really recommend it, but it's better than I expected.

The screenplay (by Richard Matheson!) is about an American ex-G.I. living in France with his wife (Liv Ullmann) who receives a surprise visit from some of the men he served with in the army.  They threaten Bronson and his wife and demand that Bronson allow them to use his boat for a drug deal.  James Mason, using the same terrible southern accent that he used in MANDINGO, is the leader of the drug runners.

The first 20 minutes of this movie are very good.  It also features a surprisingly good car and motorcycle chase along a winding mountain road.  The rest of the movie, however, is typical Bronson B-movie fodder.  But I'll say this . . . it's never boring.

COLD SWEAT was directed by Terence Young (DR. NO, FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE, THUNDERBALL, WAIT UNTIL DARK) and features Jill Ireland in a supporting role.

It's sort of ironic that you say that you can't really recommend the film...yet that paragraph right there practically demands investigation.  :teddyr:

For myself, the odd assortment of talent involved warrants at least a look.

...and if Mason wears a kneckerchief in this as
handsomely as he did in THE BOYS FROM BRAZIL...

Actually, Mason wears a stupid blue hat and has a beard and sideburns . . .

I saw this one very recently, too. It's quite a decent movie, but The Burgomaester is right when he says it sinks to B-movie level too often. Still worth a look, and a hell better than Bronsosn's output in the 80s.
