I thought the creative team involved in this movie would have learned from the mistakes that made the first one a disappointment. They didn't. It has a few good moments, but is almost as disappointing as part 1. This is aimed at an 8 - 12 year-old audience. All others should stay away. I give it a hollow "4" on a scale of 1 - 10.
I heard they really screwed up with Galactus.
KYGOTC: Yup . . . they did. Galactus is one of the Fantastic Four's greatest villains of all time. However, the idiots responsible for this movie completely ignored that fact and . . . well . . . I guess this is a spoiler, so:
***SPOILER ALERT - WARNING, WARNING***
Galactus shows up near the end of the movie, not as the galaxy-traveling giant that appeared in the Fantastic Four comics, but as a swirling cloud that engulfs planets. Sort of like the special effects in the movie TWISTER, and thrown carelessly into the movie near the end. Not very menacing. The worst part is, the Fantastic Four don't even fight him!
Too bad about the second one being for little kids. I enjoyed the first one, I think the humor really saved it.
I too was very disapointed with this one. There were a few scenes where the effects weren't totally up to par, the story was lame and predictable, and yup, Galactus is totally ruined. I got my hopes up for a brief second because the film maker's cruelly give us a brief glimpse of Galactus' shadow as he passes by the Moon on his way toward Earth.
SPOILER WARNING
Because of this shadow, I thought that perhaps Galactus was hiding within the cloudy space-going maelstrom and would make himself visible as the space-cloud neared Earth. But alas, Galactus IS the friggin' cloud! GRRRR!
FURTHER SPOILERS AHEAD....
And how the hell can the Silver Surfer DEFEAT his master?! In "reality" if the Surfer stepped out of line or even had the balls to challenge the mighty Galactus, he would have been stripped of his powers and crushed!
Granted, I think it's cool that Surfer defeats his creator, but the ending is just so anticlimactic that you don't even care that the good guys win. This movie is just LAME I tell you! LAAAAAAME! DAMN YOU TIM STORY, I want my 9 bucks back!
END SPOILERS.
The one good thing in the movie is the humor, but it's all hit and miss. Johnny's comment about The Thing's love-life is priceless though: "Hey, I'm just worried and looking out for you guys. Besides, I'd hate to hear that she was hurt in a rockslide!" :bouncegiggle:
I honestly dont know how this film could have been any good in the first place. I heard Jessica Alba can't act, as well.
It's a pity, because that very first teaser trailer was so kickass cool it had comic book readers (like myself) on the verge of a geekasm. I suppose I will wait for DVD before giving this one a look. I really don't feel like spending money on it twice.
I was looking forward to this. I always liked the silver surfer, and miss alba. They had the ingredients for greatness how could they mess it up.
I thought that the 1st Fantastic Four movie was complete crap so I'm not going to check out the 2nd one anytime soon.
Some friends of mine checked it out this past weekend and they all hated it.
You know what? I liked it.
The first FF was a huge disappointment. It seemed like they were trying to go for the whole realism thing. I hate realism in comic book movies, but there are movies where it works better-- Batman, The Punisher, or even Daredevil. The Fantastic Four are such fantastical characters that trying to keep them contained in a somewhat realistic world hurts the story. Rise of the Silver Surfer seemed to realize that. Realism is taken completely out of the equation.
My other issue with the first-- Doom. Doctor Doom is one of the greatest supervillains of all time. Nothing hurt me more than to see him reduced to a whiny Lex Luthor ripoff. In Rise, we see a hell of a lot more sinister Doctor Doom. Still not quite the Doom from the comics, he was a lot more satisfying this time around.
No, we don't get the Galactus that I had hoped for. I wanted to see a giant humanoid Galactus with silly purple hat. We get a minor obscured glimpse of Galactus in classic form, but not enough to satisfy. But I forgive it. Why? The movie isn't about Galactus. Galactus is more of a MacGuffin than anything else. And as for the anticlimactic ending, would you have preferred the four whipping out the Ultimate Nullifier out of nowhere like they did in the comic? The climax was the final showdown with Doom. Doom needed to be taken down so the Surfer could take care of Galactus.
It always seems like nothing goes on between comic book movies. What did Spider-Man do between Spidey 1 and 2 or 2 and 3? I would have killed to see a paper on the wall in the Bugle office saying something like "Spider-Man battles Rhino in Times Square". Fantastic Four finally gave me that. They casually make reference to the last few times they had to save the world.
I had my problems with it, but it wasn't anything less than mediocre. Actually, it was a hell of a lot of fun. As my friend Jeff said "It had all the fun of Spider-Man 3, minus the bad aftertaste."
The first one had too much realism??????????????? One of the (several) reasons I hated it is that the interaction between the characters was so unrealistic (and silly). Interesting note, however:
Even though I hated the first FF movie, I decided to buy the extended edition DVD. I actually liked this version better, althougth I'm not sure why. Maybe I was prepared for the dumbness this time . . . the first time it took me by surprise.
Unfortunately, the extended edition GHOST RIDER DVD is just as bad as the theatrical version . . .
the best part of the whole movie was at the very end (after silver surfer somehow blew up his master)...some little kid spoke up in the theatre and said ''daddy!! what just happened?!''
not only did that get the biggest laughs out of the whole theatre, i think the kid was onto something...
its sad when they try to dumb it down to an 8 year olds level and instead they make completely incoherant.
I thought the movie was decent. Nothing great, but not a bad way to spend a couple of hours.
I was also disappointed in Galactus, but I though a little bit about it. I figure that they had a hard time coming up with a way to make a big guy flying through space blowing up planets that didn't look completely ridiculous(to the non-comic book fans, at least). Disappointed, but was able to let it go and enjoy the rest of the movie.

Instead, they made 4 normal-sized people look and act ridiculous . . .

CALM DOWN They're just people's comments, It's not like they made a remark about your mother.
ANYways I thought about seeing this, but since every one says its so bad I might just wait for it to be on DVD.
This movie was okay, The silver surfer looked funny. (The way they did it)
