Criterion has announced the release in September of a special edition loaded with extras of 1964's b-movie favorite ROBINSON CRUSOE ON MARS. I hope there's a commentary by Mona the Woolly Monkey.
I've enjoyed many of Criterion's "legit" releases, but I'm constantly impressed by their taste in b-movies, releasing the likes of THE HONEYMOON KILLERS, FIEND WITHOUT A FACE, CARNIVAL OF SOULS, THE NAKED KISS, THE BLOB, EQUINOX, THE ATOMIC SUBMARINE, etc.
I like this movie, and most of the others you mention (I've got their CARNIVAL OF SOULS, one of my favorites). I'll be keeping an eye out for MARS.
This news has me wanting to do an happy dance.

I really love their slightly creepy documentary on "Saltair", where many of the scenes were filmed.

Excellent news!
Glad it's finally getting released, but wonder if I'd find it worth the price for a Criterion version of what was always the perfect lazy weekend afternoon movie.
I always loved this underrated movie. You know if they had an FX budget when they made it this would be a big classic movie. Good news on the DVD release.
They used to show this on TV about once every two months on Saturday afternoons when I was a kid back in the early 1970s. I watched it over and over again. Then I saw part of it on TV about 10 years ago and couldn't believe how bad Paul Mantee's acting was. Can't wait for the DVD.
I remember seeing this for the first time as a kid and thinking how cool it was they used those neat Martian ships from Pal's WAR OF THE WORLDS.
They're much zipper in this movie!

Criterion has phenomenal taste! Out of 400+ titles, I can only think of a handful I did not care for (namely
Armageddon :hatred:). But the release of
Robinson Crusoe On Mars is great news! I haven't been this excited since
Sweet Movie was announced!
