Title: Dixie Dynamite (1976)
Post by: lester1/2jr on June 30, 2007, 09:00:29 AM
This was a great movie.  Definately up there with "Viva Knieval"  or "axe" as a southern drive in classic.  It starts off with a great car chase, and one of the female protagonists looks like Lindsey lohan, so that's 4 1/2 stars already in my book.  Though it's a light comedy,  I'd put it somewhere between Dukes of Hazzard and Red Dawn in terms of it's strong anti authority message.  I like especially how the locals more or less support them, even when they are robbing and blowing up people.   The insurgent swims in the body of the people,  Mao said, or something to that effect.

Also, the big punchline given at the end is delivered with such a prominent drawl that I couldn't even figure out what they said after watching it like 7 times.

The "Sunday Highway"  musical sequence was one of many that had me laughing out loud.  Between this and "the manitou" I'm having a good month alright

I actually saw this during its theatrical run on a double feature with DIRTY MARY, CRAZY LARRY.  I don't remember much about DIXIE DYNAMITE other than a scene where a guy gets blown up on a toilet and a cameo (uncredited, I believe) by Steve McQueen.
