Guyver II: Dark Hero was on Cinemax last Saturday. I'd forgotten how good a movie that was, especially given the small budget and total lack of known actors. It had a good script, good performances, good sets, good direction, and even had special effects that didn't suck. The production team really managed to do a lot with very little.
Plastic dolls that melt down into pure cocaine... wouldn't it be funny if we had to take that seriously in a dramatic movie. Oh yeah... Traffic.

I think you've helped me to truly understand the definition of
non sequitur.
I gotta say this movie was amazing for what a low budget it had. I just got the UK re-release DVD which came out this month, Guyver: Dark Hero [Special Extended Version] (meaning the full movie as opposed to the shortened R2 DVD version - more dialogue etc) so I've watched it again lately. I actually even enjoyed the first movie (called "Mutronics" here) though it's cheese levels are through the roof and its mostly slapstick, but the second movie should win an award for the best use of such a tiny budget.
Just bought this for $4, great film along with the first one (known as Mutronics in th UK). I haven't seen it in years.
I'll always take creature effects and hand-drawn electric/lasers over GCI any day of the week.
Also I love the fact that the writers are called Long & Wang :bouncegiggle:
A very good job for a straight to video movie. I liked the final fight-but I also saw some Power Ranger influnces (like some of the characters calling out the change) A super weapon not used until the bad guy was really beaten. Plus some of the men in monster suits really looked like-men in monster suits.
Strange thing about this movie is that it seems to be one almost everytime I order a pizza.
Still, some strong action and cool monsters. Like I said-very good for a straight to video movie.
