Title: Pink Lady and Jeff (tv show 1980)
Post by: lester1/2jr on July 03, 2007, 12:26:39 PM
if anyone is still talking to me after the OT hamas/  Farfour thread...

This is painfully bad on many levels.  one,  the format, variety show,  is played out and very corny.  two,  pink lady, which is two women,  don't speak much english.  This would have made for a difficult SEGMENT MUCH less an  entire SERIES.  Three, within the corny format, the humour is unfunny, the banter forced, and the vibe sheer insanity.  The only bright spot are two good musical performances, one by Blondie doing asong I don't remember but it was good and one by teddy Pedergras, an r and b guy.  Sherman Helmsley,  Donnie f**king Osmand, Bert Parks ( ?),  and the rest of the guests are as bad as the host.  One sketch starring comedian sid caeser was so racist and unfunny I couldn't even watch it and I'm a life long Stern fan.

Neil Hamburger fans take note, this is the real thing.  horrible disco music, bad jokes.  All you can think about as you watch it is how hard the two japanese girls had to phonetically memorize their lines.  Really one of the craziest things out there i'd say

I remember this show.  I was young and naive at the time, but even I realized that it stunk.  The chicks were cute though.

I remember that show, too. it was even worse than The Hudson Brothers Razzle Dazzle Show, but not by much.

Regular Ron Hull and His Emu were pretty funny, though.

There were lots of strange and gag-reflex tickling variety shows in the 70's, of course. Tony Orlando and Dawn had one where both the ladies known as "Dawn" would make fun of Tony Orlando, just like Cher making fun of Sonny.

And even married mimes Shields and Yarnell had themselves a variety hour.
As someone imdb put it: "Those of us who lived through the 1970s as kids and young teens still sometimes wake up in the night, shrieking uncontrollably and shaking violently. This show is one of the reasons for that."

Ken Beg introduced me to this horror.  It really is hard to believe that they made a show like this.  The stereotype jokes, the sexual innuendo jokes, the gosh awful talent performances.  I usually do not like watching something that you could describe as the "*something* equivalent of a train wreck" but this was one I could.  And it was painful.

andrew-  that's the thing that i loved about it.  the pain.  this site has a lot of bad movies but some aof them are actually pretty good.  I mean I like escape 2000 and drunken wu tang.  I don't like variety shows, I don't like bad jokes,   idon't like singing and dnacing and especially not disco music and i sure don't like donnie osmond.

Ozzymandias speaks: THOSE TWO GIRLS WERE SMOKING! The LP cover had them in little white shorts. :hot:

I remember the humor in the Bert Parks episode was very anti-show biz.

For some reason I found the funniest skit to be about a prison radio show. Jeff Altman was a morning show host and Jim Varney was his sidekick who was leaving to "get the chair."  Varney is lead away by guards. Altman starts a record and mid way through the song the lights dim and the record slows down. Altman takes off his hat.

Yeah I'm warped but did I mention those girls were HOT! :hot:

Ozzymandias has spoken!!!
