Title: Death Metal
Post by: Mr. DS on August 02, 2007, 08:21:14 AM
Does anyone like death metal?  I occasionally listen to bands like Deicide, Cannibal Corpse, Exhumed.  I usually have to be in the right mood to listen to it.

Gorguts - Obscura
Exhumed - Gore Metal

these are only two death metal albums I own and ever listen to.

do you know some other death metal stuff that would rank alongside these 2? I dont really consider myself a death metal fan and I think a lot of it is poor, but both these albums to me are classics regardless of whatever genre it is...

I'd consider them more thrash methal than anything but I guess thats subject to debate.  Funny thing about Metal is the amount of branches that tree of music has.  Black, death, thrash, hair and son on.  I do have a few Slayer CDs and like a decent amount of their stuff.

Hard  to say.  Theres bands like Monstrosity and Obituary who I've heard in the past.  I usually listen to Cannibal Corpse.

My favorite death metal band is/was one of the very first ones:  Possessed. Probably because I went to school with them. I remember going to see the movie Trick or Treat and their first album being spotted in Skippy's...er...Eddie's room. Cheers went up from all the metalheads in the audience.

I mainly listen to speed/thrash/industrial metal when I do listen to it.  Stuff like Slayer, Pantera, Slipknot, V-Mob, Fear Factory, etc.  Death Metal/Black Metal is just too slow for me.  I need it to be fast if I'm gonna listen to it.

Ah, Gorguts (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gorguts)!

I remember years ago when I rented a house with two friends, one of our roommates was a friend with really long hair named "Poke".
His real name was Larry but no one ever called him that.

He used to blast the hell out of some death metal, especially Gorguts in the morning when he'd get up.  (they were his favorite death metal band)

My bedroom was downstairs and his was upstairs right above mine.
I remember laying in bed, being barely awake and hearing the most ungodly screams from the music he was playing while he was getting ready for work.
I'd pound on the wall with the side of my fist and yell, "Turn that sh*t down!"

I'm a huge regular metal fan, but not so much into death metal.

I like early Deicide, Cannibal Corpse, Death and Malevolent Creation (they've actually got a new CD out BTW).

Carcass are without a doubt THE greatest death/ grind band EVER!!! I can't stand all this so-called "brutal" death metal  - it sounds so dumb to my ears. I do also dig a lot of grind. Pig Destroyer anyone?

Depends if you consider Slayer death metal?

Reign in Blood is pretty much the album that spawned a lot of death metal along with Death's Scream Bloody Gore and Possessed's Seven Churches.

Though I consider Slayer to be speed/thrash type metal, you hear a lot of death metal bands drop Reign in Blood when naming huge influences.
