Dr. Giggles?  About f***ing time!

Now, the matters on Return to Sleepaway Camp and Legend of Dinosaurs...  Those are both supposed to see DVD releases from what I heard.

I dunno if I'll pick up that Return Of The Living Dead disc.  Apparently Dan O'Bannon has completely done away with any ties to the new release.  It's supposed to be BAD.  I'll have to wait and see what the buzz is when it's released.  I'm still happy with my MGM dvd of the film.

From Beyond is one I need to pick up.  I remember disliking the film when first seeing it on VHS, but I would like to give it another change.  Dr. Giggles is a guilty pleasure of mine and I can't wait to get a DVD copy of that one.

They're releasing Return of the Living Dead again?  It doesn't seem like the glow in the dark cover version was released that long ago.  What could be different?

The uncut release is still on schedule for Sept. 11.  It'll be nice to replace my boot finally.

How about "Food of the Gods" also coming out on DVD in early September. Can`t wait for that one. I forgot that Bert I. Gordon was the director of this little masterpiece.   Alligator is also an old time favorite of mine that will be great to have on DVD. Hope we see more "great" titles like these in the future.

One that I'm looking forward to (aside from all others mentioned here) is the Japanese film Horrors of Malformed Men. Apparently the negative reaction to this film when it was released in 1969 was so strong, many thought it would never get a legit DVD release.

My "must have" list for the next couple of months:

Alligator
The Burning
From Beyond
Snake Woman's Curse
Food of the Gods (I saw this in the theater and was freaked out)
The Roger Corman Collection
Twisted Terror Collection (inlcudes Deadly Friend, Dr. Giggles, Eyes of a Stranger, From Beyond the Grave, The Hand and Someone's Watching Me ).
The Lost World (1960) will also include the 1925 silent version, BW.
Robinson Crusoe on Mars
The Fly Collection
Devils Of Darkness / Witchcraft
Gorilla at Large & Mystery on Monster Island
Tales From the Crypt & Vault of Horror
The House on Skull Mountain / The Mephisto Waltz
Chosen Survivors / The Earth Dies Screaming

I'm sure there is more than I am forgetting. I'm going to be working overtime for days to pay for all that.

Allow me to second that sentiment.

As it is, it took the better part of 10 years just to get a hold of a decent version of Rick Wakeman's score!

It's about time that From Beyond is getting the uncut DVD release treatment. I thought that MGM was supposed to have been releasing it, but I guess not.  There's supposed to be a lot of goodies on it as I've seen Stuart Gordon hyping up this release for about 2 years now.

That's awesome about Dr. Giggles.

Alligator is coming out September 18th the same day the 2 disc Commando special edition comes out (along with the 4 disc Kill Bill and Death Proof, I might have to take out a cash advance loan for that day  :teddyr: ).

I'm perfectly happy with my MGM DVD of ROTLD.  Don't know what it is that O'Bannon is so unhappy with about the new disc, but I'm sure we'll here soon once reviews surface.

I wasn't aware of the DVD release of The Burning.  I've had a less than quality German bootleg of the film for a while now.  I don't know what it is about that film, but I freakin love it.  Really fun slasher.

You guys are seriously gonna break my wallet.  Kill Bill, Death Proof, From Beyond, The Burning, Dr. Giggles......

As for Torgo's question about O'Bannon and the new ROTLD disc...apparently O'Bannon didn't like the direction that the studio was taking with the new release.  There was also an article on bloody-disgusting.com a while back about the new commentary that's being added to the new disc.  It has the actors doing their commentary while people are moaning like zombies in the background, and the actors get killed off one by one during the commentary.  According to the article, this turned out to be an absolutely awful idea and it p**sed off quite a few of the people involved.

Man, that is a terrible idea.  No wonder he's leaving it well enough alone this go around.

Yes, it's a bad idea and I have no clue how someone would have greenlit it.  According to the article, the zombies kept getting louder and louder and began to annoy the hell out of the actors.  I certainly don't want to spend money on a new release of a film just to hear zombies throughout the commentary.  That being said, I'll see what the reviews are like when it's released.  If the reviews are good, then I'll probably pick it up even though I have the MGM release from around 2002 or so.  I'm not much of a double dipper, but I have a bad habit of doing so when it comes to films that I absolutely love.

I'll just stick with my MGM version. I think that the new one drops the full frame open matte option as well. While I'm usually a stickler for watching movies in their OAR, in the case of Return of the Living Dead, on the full framer version you get some extra gore visible in some scenes as well as some additional butt shots of Linnea Quigley as well that are blocked with the lower theatrical matte.   :teddyr:

Thanks for that bit of information Torgo!  I didn't realize that anything was cut out of the scene for widescreen.  It's funny as it's normally the other way around.  I'll have to break out my MGM disc and try it in fullscreen.

During the scene where Linnea is trying to seduce her boyfriend who is fuming about people "not understanding him", you get some great bare butt action from her in the full frame version that's blocked in the widescreen version.

also, in the scene in which Tar Man chomps into her boyfriend's head and he's afterwards laying on the floor convulsing/shaking, in the full frame version, you get some extra bits of him laying there with blood squirting out of his head that is blocked off by the widescreen matte.  I'm still kind of convinced that they shot this movie for full frame and just matted it down with full frame being the intended ratio, but I could be wrong.

BTW, I also greatly prefer the full frame open matte version of The Howling to the matted widescreen version as well.

Yeah I picked up that ROTLD disc at Walmart as well.  That was about five years ago though.  I believe it to be out of print at this point, and ebay/amazon marketplace would probably be your best bet.

I love UHF.  If anything, the commentary alone on that is brilliant.  Then like halfway through he gets up and you see him walking around getting donuts.

But, I will be getting the ROTLD dvd.  I watched it on Showtime one day and my uncle starts freaking out.  He's like, "This ain't even a b-movie.  It's like, D-movie."

Dang, I didn't realize it was 5 years ago. Time just seems to be flying anymore.

Now if only Lions Gate would release the uncut version of ROTLD part 3 on DVD with all of the extras from the R rated special edition, things would be even better in the zombie world.   :teddyr:

From Beyond? That's not Fulcio's Beyond right?

Oh man I've wanted to see Scarecrows for a long time! The idea of killer scarecrows has intrigued me since this one episode of Are You Afraid of the Dark.

Does the new ROTLD have the Tar Zombie having a deeper voice or the croaky one? I like the DVD deeper voice much more.

Is Dr. Giggles that good? I passed over it whenever I saw it a the video store.

I really need "The Incredible Melting Man" to come out on DVD. Have a copy from an old VHS but how about a nice widescreen clear print of Rick Bakers awsome make up effects.

From Beyond is Stuart Gordon's 2nd film that him and most of the cast of Re-Animator made after that seminal horror flick.

There's plenty of DVDs I'm still waiting for (if they happen at all), particularly B-Movies and Manga Films.

I'm in the UK so I get it extra bad. :( lol

What's the point in having a new medium if they're not going to put the bloody movies on it?!

Yeah, but sometimes the open matte versions actually reveal errors.  I believe it is a Fish Called Wanda where in a scene where Cleese is supposed to be naked you can see he is actually wearing jeans.

BTW, what's better on the full frame Howling?  One of my favorite horror films, and definitely my favorite werewolf film..  I'll have to check it out, as I believe my DVD has both versions.  On a side note, the commentary on the special edition is also quite good.

While I always preach widescreen to everyone the majority of the time, The Howling and Return of the Living Dead are films that I prefer watching the open matte full screen versions.

As for what is extra on the full screen The Howling?  During the famous transformation scene you get to see all of the puppet head/animatronics in the full screen version as opposed to the widescreen one cutting off the ears.  It just gives a much better view of the effects.  I just think that it allows the images on screen to breathe a lot more as the widescreen version is just way too tight in some scenes.

Joe Dante back in the early day almost always filmed his movies in full frame and just matted them down for theatrical release.

I didn't know there were any different versions of the Tar Man scene floating around out there? There was more than one?

On the MGM DVD, he's got the croaky voice from what I remember. That's the way I always remember it being on VHS as well.
